Bernard grants Wellington's request for (presumably) an autograph, but cannot grant his request for a quotation from one of his farces, confessing, "I scarcely remember a line worth the trouble." He also notes that the humor in a farce comes as much from the plot and the characters' situation as it does from the lines.
