Thunderstorm

Book Description

Thunderstorm follows the course of a storm through midwestern farm country minute-by-minute, hour-by-hour, from late morning into late afternoon. As always with Arthur Geisert, it is a meticulously executed and visually stunning piece of work. Other than the timeline that runs along the bottom border of the illustrations, there is no text, and the illustrations are continuous. Through keen observation, Geisert beautifully captures the nuances and details of a midwestern thunderstorm, from the ever-changing color of the sky, to the actions of the human inhabitants, to the reactions of the natural world to the wind and rain. America's heartland is somewhat unfamiliar territory in the realm of picture books, but in Thunderstorm, Geisert has provided readers with valuable, breathtaking insight into one of its most natural occurrences. Arthur Geisert grew up in Los Angeles, California, and claims not to have seen a pig until he was an adult. Trained as a sculptor in college, Geisert learned to etch at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. Geisert has published just about a book a year for the past thirty years. Every one of his books has been illustrated with etchings. His work has appeared in The New Yorker and The Horn Book Magazine. In 2010 his book Ice was selected as a New York Times Book Review Best Illustrated book of the year. Geisert currently lives in a converted bank building in Bernard, Iowa.

Lions, Leopards, and Storms, Oh My!

They learn about severe weather events like thunderstorms and what conditions these events can bring, like lightning, hail, and winds. They also learn what to do to stay safe. Reading this book is a great way for parents, childcare providers, and caregivers, to talk to toddlers and preschool children about thunderstorms in a non-scary way. Marine Stone Ii

Book Description

The lives of the Lava men change forever after Florences grand speech and with the possession of the magical stone Marine. But they arent in for a life of luxury and comfort their destiny calls for something greater, for a purpose far higher than any of them would have fathomed. In the beautiful and serene village of Chess Squares, the arrival of Lava men is followed by morevisitors. And they are not pleasant at all. The magic turns evil and a war for the possession of the magical stone ensues. With the Witch of the Woods scheming and plotting with her allies and things spiraling out of control for the Lava men and their friends, the tale takes a turn that of treachery, revelation of secrets, forgotten relationships, and the relentless drive to avenge at any cost. The misunderstandings, the revelations, and the time travel, all mark the the Lava familys time at the village of Chess Squares as a highly adventurous one where they not only try to protect themselves and Marine, but also embark on a tireless mission to help those in dire need at the village, using the special gifts bestowed on them. The second part of the book introduces new characters and a few old ones who visit the village of Chess Squares, those that have met the Lave men or one of them in their earlier escapade, each destined to fulfill their roles. Some fall prey to evil and some manage to stand above all of it. The second part concludes on how love and compassion stands with steely resolve in the face of all kinds of evil and opposition, and how the truth prevails despite the armies mustered by falsehood.
