Original data for the Los Angeles Regional Transportation Study (LARTS) were collected in 1960-61 with the cooperation of the counties and cities, and used to develop methodology and traffic forecasting capability. This work has been covered in the LARTS Base Year Report--1960. The need for a current and improved data base for the region was generally acknowledge and TASC and LARTS Advisory Committee recommended a regional home interview survey for that purpose. Planning of the survey was undertaken with the approval of the Bureau of Public Roads.
