En la actualidad proteccion del medio ambiente es un nuevo e importante objetivo estrategico de las empresas del mundo. En este trabajo se aborda como se puede lograr la gestion ambiental en las empresas con un caracter mas integrador usando como herramienta el Cuadro de Mando Sustentable, una herramienta de direccion de primer orden en el proceso de toma de decisiones ambientales. Tambien se destaca el papel que debe de jugar el Sistema de Informacion ambiental como base de la gestion ambiental. Ademas se propone un procedimiento para evaluar el desempeno ambiental de las empresas basado en un indice global de desempeno ambiental que permite visualizar los puntos criticos ambientales. La integracion de estas herramientas dentro del marco legal que brinda la ISO 14000 puede robustecer la gestion ambiental corporativa."
