Assessment and Development Centres are very resource intensive, both in terms of time and money. Poorly trained assessors, resource people and role players can all have a huge adverse impact on the results of an Assessment and Development Centre. To ensure consistency in the performance of assessors, resource people and role players, they must all be well briefed and properly trained. This manual provides a practical guide, with everything you need to train assessors, resource people and role players. Parts One to Three of the manual deal with the behavioural assessment skills of observing, recording, classifying, summarizing and evaluating (ORCSE). There are exercises for learning and trying out the techniques needed for each stage of the process. There is also a collection of mock simulations, which allow potential assessors to put all of the skills together and practice for real. Part Four covers training for resource persons and role players, an area which is often overlooked. Training for Assessors is an essential resource for anyone running, or planning to run, assessment and/or development centres.

Dynamic assessment is a recently developed, interactive approach to psychoeducational assessment that follows a test-intervene-retest format, focuses on learning processes and modifiability, and provides the possibility of direct linkage between assessment and intervention. The second book on the topic by Dr. Lidz, this volume is a hands-on guide that is designed specifically for practitioners who engage in diagnostic assessment related to the functioning of children in school. It reviews and critiques current models of dynamic assessment and presents the research available on these existing models. But primarily, this is a text to help practitioners carry out an actual dynamic assessment procedure. The book includes two comprehensive manuals, each providing theoretical background, descriptions of procedures, forms, and reviews of available research. The first manual describes the Mediated Learning Experience Rating Scale. This scale adapts Feuerstein's concept of MLE, postulated to describe adult activities within an adult-child interaction that facilitate the child's cognitive development. The scale is useful for assessment and consultation with both parents and teachers and, in addition, it also describes the behavior of the assessor during the course of dynamic assessment. The second manual describes the author's model for dynamic assessment. This model rests on a theory of neuropsychological foundations of mental processing as developed by Luria and elaborated by Naglieri and Das. The model preserves the test-intervene-retest format, focuses on learner modifiability and, most significantly, links the assessment with educational interventions. Detailing the implementation of an actual dynamic assessment procedure that is linked with educational interventions, this book is a valuable guide for diagnostic assessors from a wide variety of backgrounds including school, clinical, and counseling psychology, as well as special and regular education and speech and language pathology. PRACTITIONER'S GUIDE TO DYNAMIC ASSESSMENT also serves as a text for advanced graduate courses in assessment.

This handbook details best practices and discusses ongoing challenges in assessment and diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Chapters address assessment and diagnostic protocols, developmental considerations in ASD assessment, and issues concerning comorbid psychological and medical conditions. Various aspects of the disorder are emphasized throughout the handbook - from assessment in adolescent and adult populations to the latest findings in neuropsychology. The book concludes with future directions for research and clinical applications, focusing on universal screening, improved assessment methods, and earlier and more accurate diagnosis. Topics featured in this handbook include: Types of ASD assessment. Report writing for ASD evaluations. Stress and satisfaction in the diagnostic process. Clinical and neuropsychological perspectives from comorbid diagnosis of ASD and ADHD. Executive functions in ASD. The Handbook of Assessment and Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder is an essential reference for researchers, clinicians, professionals, and graduate students in clinical child and school psychology, child and adolescent psychiatry, and social work as well as rehabilitation medicine/therapy, behavioral therapy, pediatrics, and educational psychology.
