Drill and Rifle Instruction for the Corps of Rifle Volunteers

Book Description

This facsimile edition of the seventh edition of the instructions for volunteers in British service was first published in 1860. The book's musketry instructions deal chiefly with the British Pattern 1853 musket, a firearm that was supplied by the English to both Union and Confederate combatants during the US Civil War. The instructions deal with cleaning the firearm, dismounting and remounting the lock, aiming and position drills, judging distance, target practice, volley firing and skirmishing orders; and formation movements.
