Manual of Solid Piety, Or New Practical Meditations for Every Day in the Year on the Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Vol. 1

Book Description

Excerpt from Manual of Solid Piety, or New Practical Meditations for Every Day in the Year on the Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Vol. 1: From January 1st. To June 30th Influenced by these words of the august prelate, many pious people procured the book of New Meditations; but they were not slow to perceive that its use would be of infinitely more service to them it the practical part of the work, written principally for religious houses, were more directly adapted to their position in the world. During the last ten years various requests of this nature have reached me. To satisfy such legitimate desires, I have again gladly taken up my task, and now that it is concluded, I am pleased to believe that the Manual of Solid Piety will fully satisfy the wishes which have been expressed to me. To this end I have spared neither labour nor time. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Meditations on the Life, the Teaching, and the Passion of Jesus Christ, Vol. 1

Book Description

Excerpt from Meditations on the Life, the Teaching, and the Passion of Jesus Christ, Vol. 1: For Every Day of the Ecclesiastical Year; With an Appendix of Meditations for the Festivals of Various Saints Let us hope that in the form in which it is now pre sented to the reader, as in its original shape, this work may, by God's grace, prove useful and profitable to all who desire to lead a virtuous and devout life and follow our Lord; and we hope most confidently that this will be so in the case of all those who take up this book, which breathes the spirit of the Seraphic Father, with the same simple good will wherewith it is tendered to them. He who humbly stoops his head may oftentimes find a jewel in the sand; and the soul of one who truly loves God will be no less incited to extol Him by the sight of the modest daisy of the field than by the splendid rose that blooms in the well-kept gardens of a palace. The Joy of the Gospel

Book Description

The perfect gift! A specially priced, beautifully designed hardcover edition of The Joy of the Gospel with a foreword by Robert Barron and an afterword by James Martin, SJ. “The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus… In this Exhortation I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come.” – Pope Francis This special edition of Pope Francis's popular message of hope explores themes that are important for believers in the 21st century. Examining the many obstacles to faith and what can be done to overcome those hurdles, he emphasizes the importance of service to God and all his creation. Advocating for “the homeless, the addicted, refugees, indigenous peoples, the elderly who are increasingly isolated and abandoned,” the Holy Father shows us how to respond to poverty and current economic challenges that affect us locally and globally. Ultimately, Pope Francis demonstrates how to develop a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ, “to recognize the traces of God’s Spirit in events great and small.” Profound in its insight, yet warm and accessible in its tone, The Joy of the Gospel is a call to action to live a life motivated by divine love and, in turn, to experience heaven on earth. Includes a foreword by Robert Barron, author of Catholicism: A Journey to the Heart of the Faith and James Martin, SJ, author of Jesus: A Pilgrimage
