In 1743, Fredericksburg County was formed from Orange and in 1745, Augusta County was formed. In 1749, Culpeper County was formed from it and in 1838 Greene County was formed from Orange, It is surrounded by Albemarle, Louisa, Spottsylvania, Culpeper, Madison and Greene.
