Book Description
During World War I, an estimated one of every 16 Martin County citizens in southern Minnesota was in the military, serving on virtually every front, with 50 of these brave soldiers making the ultimate sacrifice in giving their lives for our country. Many others returned home with permanent combat-related disabilities. In 1942, Battery H, comprised of 153 men and five officers from Martin County, was mobilized. And representatives of the county have been in nearly every conflict or war since. These servicemen and women have served in every branch of the military, have made their own unique contributions to our freedom whether in wartime or peace, and each has a story to tell. This volume of Martin County Veterans relates some of the outstanding memories and stories shared by 72 men and women who served-from World War II through Operation Iraqi Freedom.
