Energy Terminology

Book Description

In this new edition standard energy terms in worldwide use are presented in 19 sections collectively containing over 1300 terms covering both conventional and modern sources, technology, equipment and supply systems, in English, French, German and Spanish. Three new sections are introduced: Forecasting and Methodology, including general and more specific terms relating to quantitative economic energy forecasting; Uses of Energy, ranging from terms associated with consumers and energy supply to terms concerned with industrial and chemical usage; and Measurement and Control Technology, which covers instrumentation, techniques and safety terminology. Fully indexed and specially designed for rapid cross-reference, this glossary is a useful reference guide for all scientists, technical writers and economists with an interest in this field.

Fuels Paradise

Book Description

Is the quest for true energy security a fool’s errand? In recent years, the efforts of nations to promote energy security have been hotly debated. Fuels Paradise examines how five major developed democracies—Britain, France, Germany, Japan, and the United States—have sought to enhance their energy security since the oil shocks of the 1970s and in response to the more diverse set of challenges of the early twenty-first century. Drawing on a vast range of primary and secondary sources, John S. Duffield explains the actions taken—and not taken—by these countries to address their energy security concerns. Throughout the book, Duffield argues that state strength and policy legacies are essential for understanding national responses to energy insecurity. In addition to identifying feasible energy policies and the constraints faced by policy makers, he evaluates the prospects for international cooperation to promote energy security and considers the implications of recent advances in the production and distribution of energy, particularly the fracking revolution. An ambitious cross-national and longitudinal study grounded in promising theories of national behavior, Fuels Paradise will contribute substantially to broader debates about the determinants of state action and public policy.

Integration of the Greater European Spaces

Book Description

This volume contains the proceedings (in English and French) of the International seminar "Integration of the greater European spaces" about the sustainable spatial organisation of the Greater European area. Topics range from geopolitical considerations to territorial impact assessment of concrete projects, and comprehensive reports on the activities undertaken under various European initiatives and programmes of cross-border, transnational and inter-regional co-operation. Particular attention was paid to the presentation of successful regional and local spatial development projects.

Energy from the Biomass

Book Description

The success of the previous Conferences on Energy from Biomass, held in Brighton 1980and Berlin 1982, and the continued interest among European countries, encouraged theCommission of the European Communities to organise the third conference on this areaof energy production. It brought together about 500 experts from many countries thuspresenting an international forum for discussion of the most recent advances in researchand development, manufacture and industrial applications.
