Measurement of the Branching Fraction, Polarization, and CP Asymmetries in B0-]rho0rho0 Decay, and Implications for the CKM Angle Alpha

Book Description

We study B° 2![rho]°[rho]° decays in a sample of 465 x 106 [Upsilon](4S) 2!B{bar B} events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy ee− collider located at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). We measure the branching fraction [Beta] = (0.92 ± 0.32 ± 0.14) x 10−6 and longitudinal polarization fraction f{sub L} = 0.75{sub -0.14}{sup +0.11} ± 0.04, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The evidence for the B° 2![rho]°[rho]° signal has a significance of 3.1 standard deviations, including systematic uncertainties. We investigate the proper-time dependence of the longitudinal component in the decay and measure the CP-violating coefficients S{sub L}°° = (0.3 ± 0.7 ± 0.2) and C{sub L}°° = (0.2 ± 0.8 ± 0.3). They study the implication of these results for the unitarity triangle angle [alpha].

Measurements of Branching Fractions, Polarizations, and Direct CP-violation Asymmetries in B -] Rho0 K* and B -] F0(980) K* Decays

Book Description

We present measurements of the branching fractions, longitudinal polarization, and direct CP-violation asymmetries for the decays B →?°K*+ and B+ f0(980)K*+ with a sample of (467 ± 5) x 106 B{bar B} pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e− collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. We observe B+ →?°K*+ with a significance of 5.3? and measure the branching fraction?(B+ →?°K*+) = (4.6 ± 1.0 ± 0.4) x 10−6, the longitudinal polarization f{sub L} = 0.78 ± 0.12 ± 0.03, and the CP-violation asymmetry A{sub CP} = 0.31 ± 0.13 ± 0.03. We observe B+ → f0(980)K*+ and measure the branching fraction?(B+ → f0(980)K*+) x?(f0(980) →?+?−) = (4.2 ± 0.6 ± 0.3) x 10−6 and the CP-violation asymmetry A{sub CP} = -0.15 ± 0.12 ± 0.03. The first uncertainty quoted is statistical and the second is systematic.

Measurement of the Absolute Branching Fractions for $D-̂_s\!\rightarrow\!\ell-̂\bar{\nu}_{\ell}$ and Extraction of the Decay Constant $f_{D_s}$

Book Description

The absolute branching fractions for the decays D{sub s}− → l−{bar?}{sub l} (l = e,?, or?) are measured using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 521 fb−1 collected at center of mass energies near 10.58 GeV with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II ee− collider at SLAC. The number of D{sub s}− mesons is determined by reconstructing the recoiling system DKX? in events of the type e+e−DKXD*{sub s}−, where D*{sub s}− → D{sub s}−? and X represents additional pions from fragmentation. The D{sub s}− → l°{nu}{sub {ell}} events are detected by full or partial reconstruction of the recoiling system DKX?{ell}. The branching fraction measurements are combined to determine the D{sub s}− decay constant f{sub D{sub s}} = (258.6 ± 6.4 ± 7.5) MeV, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Measurement of Branching Fractions and CP-Violating Asymmetries in B -] Rho+/-h-/

Book Description

We present measurements of branching fractions and CP-violating asymmetries in B[sup 0][yields][rho][sup[+-]][pi][sup[-+]] and B[sup 0][yields][rho][sup -]K[sup+] decays. The results are obtained from a data sample of 88.9 x 10[sup 6][Upsilon](4S)[yields] B[bar B] decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. From a time-dependent maximum likelihood fit we measure the charge-averaged branching fractions[Beta](B[sup 0][yields][rho][sup[+-]][pi][sup[-+]])= (22.6[+-] 1.8 (stat)[+-] 2.2 (syst)) x 10[sup -6] and[Beta](B[sup 0][yields][rho][sup -]K[sup+])= (7.3[sub -1.2][sup+1.3][+-] 1.3) x 10[sup -6]; and the CP-violating charge asymmetries A[sub CP][sup[rho][pi]]= -0.18[+-] 0.08[+-] 0.03 and A[sub CP][sup[rho]K]= 0.28[+-] 0.17[+-] 0.08; the direct CP violation parameter C[sub[rho][pi]]= 0.36[+-] 0.18[+-] 0.04 and the mixing-induced CP violation parameter S[sub[rho][pi]]= 0.19[+-] 0.24[+-] 0.03; and the dilution parameters[Delta]C[sub[rho][pi]]= 0.28[sub -0.19][sup+0.18][+-] 0.04 and[Delta]S[sub[rho][pi]]= 0.15[+-] 0.25[+-] 0.03.
