Measurement of Branching Fractions and Search for CP-violating Charge Asymmetries in Charmless Two-body B Decays Into Pions and Kaons

Book Description

We present measurements of the branching fractions and a search for CP-violating charge asymmetries in charmless hadronic decays of B mesons into two-body final states of kaons and pions. The results are based on a data sample of approximately 23 million BB(bar) pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC.

B Physics And Cp Violation: Bcp4 - Proceedings Of The International Workshop

Book Description

This book offers the first strong evidence of the existence of CP violation in neutral B decays extracted from sophisticated B factories in the US and Japan. It also holds out the expectation of rare B decays and D, K physics in the near future. In addition, new physics beyond the Standard Model is described. Both experimental and theoretical points of view are given.

XX International Symposium on Lepton and Photon Interactions at High Energies

Book Description

This important book covers topics that are of major interest to the high energy physics community, including the most recent results from flavour factories, dark matter and neutrino physics. In addition, it considers future high energy machines.

MEASUREMENTS OF BRANCHING FRACTIONS AND CP VIOLATING ASYMMETRIES IN B0 ---] PI+ PI-, K+ PI-, K+ K- DECAYS.

Book Description

We present measurements of branching fractions and CP-violating asymmetries for neutral B meson decays to two-body final states of charged pions and kaons. The results are obtained from a data sample of about 88 million[Upsilon](4S)[yields] B[bar B] decays collected between 1999 and 2002 with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. From a time-independent fit we measure the charge-averaged branching fractions[Beta](B[sup 0][yields][pi][sup+][pi][sup -])= (4.7[+-] 0.6[+-] 0.2) x 10[sup -6] and[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] K[sup+][pi][sup -])= (17.9[+-] 0.9[+-] 0.7) x 10[sup -6], where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic; the 90% confidence level upper limit[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] K[sup+]K[sup -])

Measurement of CP Asymmetries and Branching Fractions in Charmless Two-Body B-Meson Decays to Pions and Kaons

Book Description

We present improved measurements of CP-violation parameters in the decays B° →??−, B° → K+?−, and B° →?°?°, and of the branching fractions for B° →?°?° and B° → K°?°. The results are obtained with the full data set collected at the?(4S) resonance by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, corresponding to 467 ± 5 million B{bar B} pairs. We find the CP-violation parameter values and branching fractions S{sub?+?−} = -0.68 ± 0.10 ± 0.03, C{sub?+?−} = -0.25 ± 0.08 ± 0.02,?{sub K−?+} = -0.107 ± 0.016{sub -0.004}{sup +0.006}, C{sub?°?°} = -0.43 ± 0.26 ± 0.05,?(B° →?°?°) = (1.83 ± 0.21 ± 0.13) x 10−6,?(B° → K0?°) = (10.1 ± 0.6 ± 0.4) x 10−6, where in each case, the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. We observe CP violation with a significance of 6.7 standard deviations for B° →?+?− and 6.1 standard deviations for B° → K+{pi}{sup -}, including systematic uncertainties. Constraints on the Unitarity Triangle angle? are determined from the isospin relations among the B → {pi}{pi} rates and asymmetries. Considering only the solution preferred by the Standard Model, we find? to be in the range [71{sup o}, 109{sup o}] at the 68% confidence level.

Measurement of CP Asymmetries and Branching Fractions in Neutral B Meson Decays to Charged Pions and Kaons with the BABAR Detector

Book Description

This dissertation presents a measurement of CP asymmetries and branching fractions for neutral B meson decays to two-body final states of charged pions and kaons. The results are obtained from a data sample of about 88 million?(4S) → B{bar B} decays collected between 1999 and 2002 with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory located at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. A fit to kinematic, topological, and particle identification information measures the charge-averaged branching fractions?(B° →??−) = (4.7 ± 0.6 ± 0.2) x 10−6 and?(B° → K+?−) = (17.9 ± 0.9 ± 0.7) x 10−6; the 90% confidence level upper limit?(B° → K+K−)
