A Measurement of the Ratio of the Production Cross Sections for W and Z Bosons in Association with Jets with the ATLAS Detector

Book Description

In this study, the ratio of the production cross sections for W and Z bosons in association with jets has been measured in proton-proton collisions at √s = 7 TeV with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The measurement is based on the entire 2011 dataset, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb-1. Inclusive and differential cross-section ratios for massive vector bosons decaying to electrons and muons are measured in association with jets with transverse momentum pT > 30 GeV and jet rapidity.

Measurement of the W±Z Boson Pair-production Cross Section in Pp Collisions at [mml

Book Description

Here, the production of W±Z events in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV13 TeV is measured with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The collected data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb-1. The W±Z candidates are reconstructed using leptonic decays of the gauge bosons into electrons or muons.

Measurement of W± and Z-boson Production Cross Sections in Pp Collisions at [mml]

Book Description

Measurements of the W± → l±[nu] and Z → l+l- production cross sections (where l± = e±, [mu]± ) in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV are presented using data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 81 pb-1. The total inclusive W±-boson production cross sections times the single-lepton-flavour branching ratios are [sigma]Wtot+ =11.83 ± 0.02 (stat)±0.32 (sys)±0.25 (lumi) nb and [sigma]W-tot=8.79±0.02 (stat)±0.24 (sys)±0.18 (lumi) nb for W+ and W- , respectively.

Measurement of Higgs Boson Production Cross Sections in the Diphoton Channel

Book Description

This thesis presents the measurement of the Higgs boson cross section in the diphoton decay channel. The measurement relies on proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy √s = 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The collected data correspond to the full Run-2 dataset with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb-1. The measured cross sections are used to constrain anomalous Higgs boson interactions in the Effective Field Theory (EFT) framework. The results presented in this thesis represent a reduction by a factor 2 of the different photon and jet energy scale and resolution systematic uncertainties with respect to the previous ATLAS publication. The thesis details the calibration of electron and photon energies in ATLAS, in particular the measurement of the presampler energy scale and the estimation of its systematic uncertainty. This calibration was used to perform a measurement of the Higgs boson mass in the H → γγ and H → 4l channels using the 36 fb−1 dataset.

Measurement of W and Z Boson Production Cross Sections in Proton-proton Collisions at [square Root] S

Book Description

Measurements of W and Z boson production cross sections in pp collisions at [square root] s = 5.02TeV and [square root] s = 13TeV are presented. Data was collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC during low-pileup data taking periods in 2017. The corresponding integrated luminosity for the data is 299.1 ± 5 pb−1 ( [square root] s = 5.02TeV) and 199.3 ± 4 pb−1 ( [square root] s = 13TeV), with an average number of pile-up interactions [[mu] = 3 ([mu] = 2). Cross sections and cross section ratios are reported, with final states in electron and muon channels.

Generator-level Acceptance for the Measurement of the Inclusive Cross Section of W-boson and Z-boson Production in Pp Collisions at [square Root Of] S

Book Description

The inclusive cross section of vector boson production in proton-proton collisions is one of the key measurements for constraining the Standard Model and an important part of the physics program at the LHC. Measurement of the inclusive cross section requires calculating the detector acceptance of decay products. The acceptance of the CMS detector of leptonic decays of W and Z bosons produced in pp colisions at [square root of]s = 5 TeV is calculated using Monte Carlo event simulation. Statistical and systematic uncertainties on the acceptance measurement from PDF and a, uncertainty and higher-order correction are reported. The use of the calculated acceptance in combination with measurements of detector efficiency, luminosity, and particle counting to determine the inclusive cross section is outlined. A total integrated luminosity of 331.64 pb-1 from 2015 and 2017 CMS data at [square root of]s = 5 TeV is available for the calculation of the inclusive cross section.
