Correspondence from American naval officer and explorer Charles Wilkes (1798-1877) to astronomer and Harvard College Observatory director William Cranch Bond (1789-1859), dated June 22, 1843, regarding the survey of astronomical and meteorological data Bond was undertaking in connection with the United States Exploring Expedition, commanded by Wilkes from 1838 to 1842; and correspondence from Wilkes to Fred D. Stuart, dated September 28, 1858, asking him to forward some bills to an agent in New York.
