Testing of Metallic and Inorganic Coatings

Book Description

Coatings are tested to confirm compliance with specifications, to monitor the operation of a coating process, and to evaluate coatings for various services. The ability of a coating to perform as intended usually depends on several characteristics, and the testing of a coating usually involves several different tests. At first glance the nature of a characteristic that is being tested may seem clear and the results of a test may seem to be unambiguous, however, the nature of a characteristic my be more complex than realized and the ability of a test to measure the characteristic may be less than expected. The members of the ASTM Committee B-8 on Metallic and Inorganic Coatings felt it was desirable to organize a symposium on the testing of the metallic and inorganic coatings so as to bring these problems to the attention of practitioners. This publication is based on the symposium, which was presented in Chicago on April 14 and 15, 1986.

Intelligent Coatings for Corrosion Control

Book Description

Intelligent Coatings for Corrosion Control covers the most current and comprehensive information on the emerging field of intelligent coatings. The book begins with a fundamental discussion of corrosion and corrosion protection through coatings, setting the stage for deeper discussion of the various types of smart coatings currently in use and in development, outlining their methods of synthesis and characterization, and their applications in a variety of corrosion settings. Further chapters provide insight into the ongoing research, current trends, and technical challenges in this rapidly progressing field. - Reviews fundamentals of corrosion and coatings for corrosion control before delving into a discussion of intelligent coatings—useful for researchers and grad students new to the subject - Covers the most current developments in intelligent coatings for corrosion control as presented by top researchers in the field - Includes many examples of current and potential applications of smart coatings to a variety of corrosion problems

Coating and Surface Treatment Systems for Metals

Book Description

Arranged to give prominence to the nature and properties of surfaces rather than to process methods. Describes 76 coatings and surface treatments, including acrylic polymers, cobalt and alloys of it, sprayed or slurry-applied chromium oxide, nitrocarburising of steel and cast iron, oil and oleoresinous paints, silver, thermal hardening and vapor deposited ceramic compounds. Then considers coating and treatment methods, such as cladding, electrophoretic deposition, metal powder coating with organic and inorganic binders, and weld surfacing. A final section presents a guide to coating and treatment characteristics, among the smoothness, solderability, friction coefficient, corrosion protection in various environments, uniformity of thickness, fitness for contact with food, and cost. Paper edition (unseen), $124.00. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Advanced Coatings for Corrosion Protection

Book Description

Corrosion is a significant issue in many industrial fields. Among other strategies, coatings are by far the most important technology for corrosion protection of metallic surfaces. The Special Issue “Advanced Coatings for Corrosion Protection” has been launched as a means to present recent developments in any type of advanced coating for corrosion protection. This book compiles 15 contributions on metallic, inorganic, polymeric and nanoparticle enhanced coatings that provide corrosion protection as well as other functionalities.

Organic and Inorganic Coatings for Corrosion Prevention

Book Description

Organic and Inorganic Coatings for Corrosion Prevention - Research and Experiences is a collection of Papers from EUROCORR '96 and published for the European Federation of Corrosion by The Institute of Materials. In the session on Coatings the following topics were discussed: • Life-time prediction of organic coatings; • Environmentally friendly coatings; • Testing; and • Surface preparation techniques. This book contains a selection of the scientific work presented in the Conference with the aim of focusing on the research developments in the frame of corrosion protection coatings for industrial use. The book is in four sections describing, respectively, organic coatings, zinc coatings, other metallic coatings and ceramic coatings.

Coated Metal

Book Description

This book can be viewed as a scientific investigation combined with methodological studies. For practical reasons each of the methods is described in the following general manner including: the uses and the scientific investigation tasks; methods of sampling; testing equipment; test preparation; tests; data processing; controversial issues and conclusions. Each of the 37 methods contains a range of 1 to 8 variants. As far as we know, the book is the first publication in the field.

New Technologies in Protective Coatings

Book Description

Materials are at the center of all technological advances; it is evident in considering the spectacular progress that has been made in fields as diverse as engineering, medicine, biology, etc. Materials science and technology must develop researches allowing the generation of new methods of protection to reduce fundamentally the losses of human life as well as the economic ones. The former are impossible of quantifying, while the latter are highly significant; thus, only those derived from corrosive processes in their different forms reach, in technologically developed countries, about 4% of the Gross National Product (GNP), while those derived from fire action range from 0.5 to 1.0% of the mentioned GNP. The book, in the different chapters, displays original systems of superficial protection and of low environmental impact to minimize the losses by corrosion and the fire action.

Manual of Engineering Drawing

Book Description

Manual of Engineering Drawing is a comprehensive guide for experts and novices for producing engineering drawings and annotated 3D models that meet the recent BSI and ISO standards of technical product documentation and specifications. This fourth edition of the text has been updated in line with recent standard revisions and amendments. The book has been prepared for international use, and includes a comprehensive discussion of the fundamental differences between the ISO and ASME standards, as well as recent updates regarding legal components, such as copyright, patents, and other legal considerations. The text is applicable to CAD and manual drawing, and it covers the recent developments in 3D annotation and surface texture specifications. Its scope also covers the concepts of pictorial and orthographic projections, geometrical, dimensional and surface tolerancing, and the principle of duality. The text also presents numerous examples of hydraulic and electrical diagrams, applications, bearings, adhesives, and welding. The book can be considered an authoritative design reference for beginners and students in technical product specification courses, engineering, and product designing. - Expert interpretation of the rules and conventions provided by authoritative authors who regularly lead and contribute to BSI and ISO committees on product standards - Combines the latest technical information with clear, readable explanations, numerous diagrams and traditional geometrical construction techniques - Includes new material on patents, copyrights and intellectual property, design for manufacture and end-of-life, and surface finishing considerations
