Testing of Metallic and Inorganic Coatings

Book Description

Coatings are tested to confirm compliance with specifications, to monitor the operation of a coating process, and to evaluate coatings for various services. The ability of a coating to perform as intended usually depends on several characteristics, and the testing of a coating usually involves several different tests. At first glance the nature of a characteristic that is being tested may seem clear and the results of a test may seem to be unambiguous, however, the nature of a characteristic my be more complex than realized and the ability of a test to measure the characteristic may be less than expected. The members of the ASTM Committee B-8 on Metallic and Inorganic Coatings felt it was desirable to organize a symposium on the testing of the metallic and inorganic coatings so as to bring these problems to the attention of practitioners. This publication is based on the symposium, which was presented in Chicago on April 14 and 15, 1986.

GB/T 9799-2024 Translated English of Chinese Standard (GB/T 9799-2024, GBT9799-2024)

Book Description

This document specifies the requirements for treated zinc electroplated coatings on steel, including the information to be provided by the purchaser to the supplier and the requirements for heat treatment before and after electroplating. This document does not specify the surface condition of the base metal before zinc electroplating, but defects on the base metal surface will have an adverse effect on the appearance and performance of the coating. This document applies to treated zinc electroplated coatings on iron or steel. This document does not apply to: -- zinc electroplated coatings on unformed steel sheets, strips and wires; -- zinc electroplated coatings for tightly wound springs; -- zinc electroplated coatings for non-protective decorative purposes. The thickness of the electroplating coating on threaded parts can be limited by thread grade or assembly size requirements.

QC/T 625-2013 Translated English of Chinese Standard. (QCT 625-2013, QC/T625-2013, QCT625-2013)

Book Description

This Standard specifies the requirements, technical specification and test methods for metallic coatings and conversion coatings of parts and accessories of automobile. This Standard is applicable to automobile design and process design.

Materials Degradation and Its Control by Surface Engineering

Book Description

This book provides a general holistic view of materials degradation without undue emphasis on aqueous corrosion with the neglect of other important topics such as liquid metal corrosion. Discussion of materials degradation is balanced by detailed description and evaluation of surface engineering as a means of managing materials degradation. Thus, the trainee engineer is presented with a comprehensive view of the problem rather than just a part of the problem. The control or management of materials degradation is not only discussed in scientific terms, but the economics or financial aspects of materials degradation and surface engineering is also discussed in detail with the help of analytical models.

GB/T 11376-2020 Translated English of Chinese Standard (GB/T 11376-2020, GBT11376-2020)

Book Description

This Standard specifies methods for determining the requirements for phosphate conversion coating. This Standard applies to ferrous materials, aluminum, zinc, cadmium and their alloys (see Appendix A).

Materials Degradation And Its Control By Surface Engineering (2nd Edition)

Book Description

The second edition of Materials Degradation and Its Control by Surface Engineering continues the theme of the first edition, where discussions on corrosion, wear, fatigue and thermal damage are balanced by similarly detailed discussions on their control methods, e.g. painting and metallic coatings. The book is written for the non-specialist, with an emphasis on introducing technical concepts graphically rather than through algebraic equations. In the second edition, the graphic content is enhanced by an additional series of colour and monochrome photographs that illustrate key aspects of the controlling physical phenomena. Existing topics such as liquid metal corrosion have been extended and new topics such as corrosion inhibitors added.

QC/T 568-2019 Translated English of Chinese Standard. (QCT 568-2019, QC/T568-2019, QCT568-2019)

Book Description

This standard specifies the technical conditions of for manual transmission (MT) assembly and the corresponding bench test methods of automobile. This standard is applicable to categories M and N automotive manual transmission (MT) assembly.
