This book gathers selected papers presented at the conference of the Forum for Interdisciplinary Mathematics (FIM), held at Palau Macaya, Barcelona, on 18 to 20 November, 2015. The event was co-organized by the University of Barcelona (Spain), the Spanish Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences (Spain) and the Forum for Interdisciplinary Mathematics (India). This instalment of the conference was presented with the title “Applied Mathematics and Computational Intelligence” and particularly focused on the use of Mathematics and Computational Intelligence techniques in a diverse range of scientific disciplines, as well as their applications in real-world problems. The book presents thirty peer-reviewed research papers, organised into four topical sections: on Mathematical Foundations; Computational Intelligence and Optimization Techniques; Modelling and Simulation Techniques; and Applications in Business and Engineering. Data-Driven Modelling with Fuzzy Sets


Book Description

Zadeh introduced in 1965 the theory of fuzzy sets, in which truth values are modelled by numbers in the unit interval [0, 1], for tackling mathematically the frequently appearing in everyday life partial truths. In a second stage, when membership functions were reinterpreted as possibility distributions, fuzzy sets were extensively used to embrace uncertainty modelling. Uncertainty is defined as the shortage of precise knowledge or complete information and possibility theory is devoted to the handling of incomplete information. Zadeh articulated the relationship between possibility and probability, noticing that what is probable must preliminarily be possible. Following the Zadeh’s fuzzy set, various generalizations (intuitionistic, neutrosophic, rough, soft sets, etc.) have been introduced enabling a more effective management of all types of the existing in real world uncertainty. The application of Microsoft Solution Framework Software Testing using Neutrosophic Numbers


Book Description

For software development companies, deciding which development methodology to use when starting a project is in many cases an important task to perform. The selection of development methodology can be modeled as a decision-making problem. Neutrosophy is a philosophical current that starts from Paradoxism. In this article, we describe a methodology selection proposal using neutrosophic numbers, from which the development methodology proposal is decided. The method allows taking into account the indeterminacy in decision-making, in addition to the use of linguistic terms that are more appropriate than numerical ones. The applicability of the proposal is confirmed through a demonstrative example. The paper ends with the conclusions and recommendations for future work.
