Metric Manual for Schools

Book Description

Excerpt from Metric Manual for Schools: The Decimal System of Measures and Weights, With Exercises and ProblemsA'r a meeting of the American Metric Bureau, held in Mont pelier, last month, to consider the best methods of teaching the Metric System, it was unanimously agreed that the most urgent need at the present time was a Manual for the use of teachers. After an extended discussion of the subject a committee of five was appointed to prepare a Manual in accordance with the plan agreed upon and in time for. The fall schools. The principal features of the Manual were determined by the Bureau. It was to be adapted for use in primary, as well as in more advanced, grades. This will explain the very elementary character of the earlier portions. It was thought to be easier for teachers of advanced classes to omit such parts as were not needed by them, than for others to supply, without examples, just the kind of exercises necessary. The suggestion may, however, be permitted, that many pupils considerably advanced beyond primary grades will, on trial, be found wanting in definite ideas of measures and weights, and of the proper method of using them.It was decided that the problems should be confined to such denominations as would be actually used, and that the Manual should be strictly metric, except that some equivalents and problems for comparison might be given at the end.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
