It is 58 miles east of Asheville on U. S. Highway 64 and 70, Interstate High way 40, and North Carolina Highways 18, 126 and 181. It is 68 miles northwest of Charlotte, with cities of winston-salem and Greensboro, northeastward 100 miles and 132 miles respectively. Morganton is overnight distance by Southern Railway from New York City. It is a 30 minute drive up N. C. Scenic highway 181 to the Blue Ridge Park way.
