Excerpt from Minutes of the 109th-121st Annual Session of the Alexander Baptist Association, North Carolina, 1996-2008 On October 6, 1851, First Baptist Church was organized with twenty-three white mar, twenty eight white women and five black charter members. Six of the men were preachers. John Jones, a young minister joined the Sons of Temperance, an organization opposed to the sale and use of alcohol. Jones and others who joined him were expelled from Little River Baptist Church and started this new fellowship. The first meeting house was probably made of logs followed by a frame building. This is a quote from Miss Lucy's minutes in 1990. The Alexander Association met here first in 1892 and we met here last in 1990 with Rev. David Boan as pastor.
