And he was probably starting to think I hadn't heard the doorbell, so when I saw him reach out to knock, I yanked it open. Trying to look normal. Like I hadn't been just sizing him up from the other side. I hadn't actually been able to see his face through the peephole, and now that I had, I couldn't help but stare. He was terrifying. But also extremely handsome. Maybe it was the cut angles of his jaw, or the deep, quiet sharpness to his gaze. And he must have left home in a hurry, because he wasn't wearing a coat. Just a flannel shirt that made him look something like a lumberjack.
