Among His Troops: Washington's War Tent in a Newly Discovered Watercolor provides an eyewitness view of the Revolutionary War. A chance find of the only known wartime image of General George Washington's headquarters tent, the original of which is on display at the Museum of the American Revolution, inspired this exploration of the fortunes of the Continental Army between the last major victory at Yorktown in 1781 and the final peace in 1783. Washington's grand encampment on the Hudson River at Verplanck's Point, New York in 1782 showed the French that the United States was still a formidable ally against Great Britain.Based on the Museum's first special exhibition of the same name, Among His Troops brings together the newly discovered panoramic watercolor of the Verplanck's Point encampment and a watercolor of the Continental Army's fortress at West Point, both painted by French-born military officer and eyewitness Pierre Charles L'Enfant. These paintings, paired with original objects from the encampments, reveal the proud, yet precarious situation of Washington's army as the Revolutionary War neared its end.

Focused on three Egyptian revolutions—in 1919, 1952, and 2011—this edited book argues that each of these revolutions is a milestone which represents a meaningful turning point in modern Egyptian history. Revolutions are typically characterized by a fundamental change in political and social infrastructures as well as in the establishment of new values and norms. However, it should be noted that this may not be entirely applicable when examining the context of the three Egyptian revolutions: the 1919 revolution failed to liberate Egypt from British colonial hegemony; the 1952 revolution failed to rework the country’s social and economic systems and unify the Arab world; and the "Arab Spring" revolution of 2011 culminated in a chaotic economic and social catastrophe, thus failing to solve the young generation’s crisis. Nevertheless, by revisiting and re-defining these revolutions through diverse theoretical frameworks, the book proposes that each of them played a significant role in shaping Egypt’s political, social, and cultural identity. Curating Revolution

How did China's Communist revolution transform the nation's political culture? In this rich and vivid history of the Mao period (1949–1976), Denise Y. Ho examines the relationship between its exhibitions and its political movements. Case studies from Shanghai show how revolution was curated: museum workers collected cultural and revolutionary relics; neighborhoods, schools, and work units mounted and narrated local displays; and exhibits provided ritual space for ideological lessons and political campaigns. Using archival sources, ephemera, interviews, and other materials, Ho traces the process by which exhibitions were developed, presented, and received. Examples under analysis range from the First Party Congress Site and the Shanghai Museum to the 'class education' and Red Guard exhibits that accompanied the Socialist Education Movement and the Cultural Revolution. The Contemporary Museum issues a challenge to those who view the museum as an artefact of history, constrained in its outlook as much by professional, institutional and disciplinary creed, as by the collections it accumulated in the distant past. Denying that the museum can locate its purpose in the pursuit of tradition or in idealistic speculation about the future, the book asserts that this can only be found through an ongoing and proactive negotiation with the present: the contemporary.
