Larrick has written a hybrid work, one that is filled with autobiographical references to the author's (extensive) career as a percussionist alongside his observations and annotations of the bibliography. The text is divided into a long list of alphabetized entries, which include drum duets, the drum set, French percussion, German bibliography, health ideas, jazz, and John Cage.
