Tradition has it that his family had lived in Alsace for a generation or two already after leaving Schaffhausen, and that his father had been impressed into the Army of Frederick William I ... [he] was born about 1705-1706 ... arrived in Philadelphia on October 2, 1727 on the ship "Adventure" ... apparently lived in the vacinity of Philadelphia for a few years, joining in that extensive excursion of the "Pennsylvania Germans" to Loudoun County, Virginia ... He was married about the same time, but whether in Pennsylvania or Virginia is not known, nor is the maiden name of his wife known, other than that she was called Catherine"--Page 18. Descendants eventually adopted the surname Exline and Axline. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Colorado, Kansas, Ohio, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, California and elsewhere
