They say that every 100 years or so, nature throws humans a curveball in the form of a pandemic. The effects, challenges, and changes may not be the same, still, a pandemic affects us all. But soon, everything we are experiencing will be part of history. The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has not only slowed us down, but also changed the way we work, live, and plan for the future. Not only for the duration of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), Modified ECQ, or General Community Quarantine (GCQ), but for a very long time. The Quarantined Thoughts ebook project (formerly called Coronavirus Chronicles) was created to give people something to do at home during the ECQ in March 2020. Our goal is to encourage everyone to chronicle life during a pandemic and help process thoughts and feelings through writing. Each of us has stories that deserve to be told. It was others who carried me on that stretcher, and I saw God's hope through those that were there to carry me. Whether it was the woman I hadn't known before, tapping me on the shoulder asking how my mother was doing and telling me she was praying for her, to an entire church in Bloomingburg, praying for her, and, many years later, for me when I was in the grips of COVID-19, God's hope shines through people. I will be eternally grateful to all the women and men in the medical field, many of them are in this book, and some who I may never know their names. They were and continue to be God's vessels of hope for me. As are the many who prayed, locally, around the country, and the world. With joy upon my return home, Dr. Gulati, my local doctor declared it "nothing short of a Christmas miracle."

During his twenty years with the agency, Tom worked his way through the ranks to become a warden and in the process he put himself through college (NYIT) and graduate school (St. John’s University in Queens, New York). One of the author’s many successes was preparing and managing the nation’s first municipal direct supervision facility for operation. Under his leadership, the facility became a model for the department and an example for the nation. The Diary of an Ordinary Man was written from the perspective of a blue-collar worker. Within the book the reader will be entertained with some humorous and human-interest stories. The book covers a particularly volatile period in our nation’s history, wherein major societal changes occurred, which resulted in many challenges and innovative solutions, some of which may be relevant today. Prior to his retirement in the early 2000s, Tom was a jail auditor for the National Sheriff’s Association and the American Correctional Association. He served as president for the North American Association of Wardens and Superintendents and the American Jail Association, and finally as a member of the Board of Directors for the International Correctional Arts Network (ICAN). He attends church regularly and is a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also is a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Legion.
