God Won

Book Description

My story, which chronicles a long and merciless struggle with alcoholism, is offered to illustrate the human tragedy that we all encounter with a life that is void of the presence of God. In fact, the crux of the story is not about alcoholism, but an on-going battle with God caused by pride. To alleviate my plight, an enormous price had to be paid. The solution was found in two significant books: (1) The Bible and (2) Alcoholics Anonymous (Big Book). The New Testament of the Bible gives us the good news of the Gospel where God has provided us the "Way, the Truth and the Life" (John 14:6) through His Son Jesus Christ, which is our only hope. The twelve steps of the Big Book takes us step by step to a spiritual awakening and the promise that only God can restore us to sobriety and a new life of recovery. The overriding message that is developed in this book is that the solution to our predicament is not found through an intellectual exercise, but by engaging an action plan. I describe in this book the power of the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) along with working the twelve-step action plan resulted in a life-saving spiritual awakening. But more importantly, I demonstrate through my story how a spiritual awakening and the promises of the twelve steps revealed the good news of the Gospel. And the Gospel of Jesus Christ not only saved my life but gave me a whole new life. All the glory is to God.

11

Book Description

I found God in the “stillness.” This book is a testimony to the incredible healing power and the promises of the Twelve Step Recovery Program. As a recovering alcoholic I quickly worked through the Twelve Steps with a sponsor. Step “11” states that we must seek through prayer (asking God,) and meditation (listening to God,) to form “conscious contact” with the God of our understanding. I practiced this step faithfully. On May 15, 2005 to my utter amazement a dialog with God began whom I now lovingly refer to as “My Holy One.” There is one major reason I do believe that I established this communication, I BELIEVED THAT GOD WOULD ANSWER ME IF I ASKED! Enclosed in this book are some of the questions I always wanted to ask God such as: Creation, Souls, Heaven, evolution, the physics of the Universe, Biblical accuracy, the devil, war, poverty, Mary and Jesus, and much more. I also discovered that God has needs. He needs us to listen to Him. This extraordinary contact is not for the “special” or for the “chosen ones.” Anyone can do this if they truly desire it. It is our birthright. We All inherited this ability from God. God also wants us to know that He does not exist in a far away corner of the universe, He exits everywhere. He is even in the dirt that we walk upon. He assures us that We Are One. There is no separation between “Us.” God lives and breathes with us. He experiences our life journeys by way of an exchange of information with our souls. As spiritual entities we were ALL born in One Holy Moment of Creation and when we leave this earth we will surely return to Our Divine Nature once again. If you are searching to fill a void in your heart when or if all other Gods have failed, if you are looking for a Higher Power who can be a mentor, a friend, and a Father, I humbly ask you to give this “One” a try. As I was taught in AA…………. God is either EVERYTHING, or He is NOTHING.

Tougher Than Nails: The God of the Twelve Step Program

Book Description

Many of the struggles addicts face are things Christians face as well: loneliness, fear, self-loathing, inadequacy, shame

Watch What He Does with This

Book Description

The Twelve Steps program of Alcoholics Anonymous has helped millions of us. Without it we would not have found our way. I for one am extremely grateful for this life saving gift. My concern for its continued life is the drifting from its foundation. The Twelve Step program has lost its fire. The fire lost is the spirit, the spirit of God. The spirit is still smoldering in the Twelve Step program, just waiting to be ignited again. I will introduce you to the founding fathers of AA; show how the program's foundation was originally based in Christianity and a relationship with Jesus; share my experience with the Twelve Steps developed by the founding fathers; and provide you with a method to apply the Twelve Steps as originally developed by the founding fathers to your life. Working the Twelve Steps as they were originally intended can change your life dramatically, break the addiction cycle and create a relationship with Jesus. The fire of the Holy Spirit will become part of your life. Gary Agnew has recaptured the original and true spirit of the Twelve Step Movement that was founded upon explicitly Christian principles; namely, that without Christ we can do nothing, but in Him we can do everything. A Higher Power of this Movement was originally the Holy Spirit of the Christ who lives within. Faith, hope, love and forgiveness are the essential principles of AA. Rev. William McCarthy, MSA An essential role of healing is turning our minds and hearts toward God. Gary Agnew captures the centrality of this wisdom in a remarkable way in his Twelve Step book. In recovery sometimes therapy is needed; sometimes medication, but ultimately the healing is between the person and God. The Twelve Steps are a way of life-a guide that everyone can use to live in freedom and peace. The Holy Spirit is the Guide within it who heals us. I am thrilled to have this book as a resource in the healing process. Mary Alice Rossini, NP Nurse Practitioner/Psychiatry

I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die

Book Description

A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

God Met Me At The Steps

Book Description

This book is my story of alcoholism and how I found and am living a new way of life grounded in the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. I do not claim to be a member of Alcoholics, only that with guidance from a sponsor, I practice their twelve steps in my life. This book is organized by chapters that cover each of the steps, especially my experience in each. It also includes a brief history of my active alcoholic years. The description of each Step is not my wisdom, it is simply my personal experience. There is little in AA that is new. The wisdom, and yes, I believe it is wisdom, is a compilation of the 100s of recovering alcoholics I've encountered over more than 35 years of sobriety coupled with my personal experience. It is also the wisdom from several of the best sponsors in the world that willingly took their time to share their experiences including their innermost secrets with me and how they live each step. It is also the wisdom from hundreds of speakers over the years that shared their story from the podium or a speaker tape (yep that dates me), a podcast, or more recently on the many websites that make speakers available free of charge. This book does not replace the book Alcoholics Anonymous which is the source of the twelve steps covered herein. It is my hope that my experience will bring at least one suffering from alcoholism to find recovery from this disease.
