My Grandfather's Gift of Psalm 1

Book Description

This book is a collection of stories encompassing the ups and downs I have faced in this walk called life. God has shown me how He has been guiding me all along, leading me to have a deeper faith in Him in all that I do and encounter. God’s Word and love has given me the hope and encouragement I have needed. I know that He is always with me especially when I may not realize it at the time. The stories in this book display the steppingstones I have crossed and how God has led me through good, bad, sad and even funny times. He leads me to the next steppingstone I must cross. My Grandfather Reverend Elmer West gave me the gift of Psalm 1 in 1999. Since then I have learned how much grander God’s plans are verses my own... I will not wither. I hope my book will give you inspiration, deepen your faith, and maybe even give you a laugh or two as you let God guide you through your own journey of steppingstones.

We Are All Called [Paperback]

Book Description

We Are All Called is the culmination of a series of life experiences for Father J. Thomas Heron, 40 years a priest. When Fr. Heron was just four years old, his dad died of heart failure. This impactful life event forced Fr. Heron to mature at a young age, but also led him to ask many important questions. Had it not been for the vital spiritual and vocational mentors in his life, he may have never learned how to cope with tragedy and death - which he has now seen many times over - with grace and goodness. Fr. Heron believes in e.e. cummings' mantra, "we cannot be born enough" - that we all experience many births in life, and that we are all called by the Blessed Trinity to realize our places in salvation history, while carrying out our personal destinies. He is hopeful you will shed tears of joy and tears of empathy as you read his collection of stories, and ultimately realize many truths in your own life.

Wisdom Commentary: Psalms Books 4-5

Book Description

In this close reading of Psalms 90-150, Nancy L. deClaissé-Walford discovers meanings in the Psalms that were "there all along" but hidden beneath layers of interpretation built up over the centuries. Approaching the canonical storyline of the Psalter with feminist-critical lenses, she reads against the dominant mind-set, refuses to accept the givens, and seeks to uncover a hidden/alternate/parallel set of societal norms. DeClaissé-Walford attends to how context affects the way hearers appropriate the Psalter's words: women, for the most part, hear differently than men; women of privilege differently than women living in poverty. Her interchanges with students and scholars in post-apartheid South Africa bring the biblical text alive in new ways for today's believers.

The Inspiration and Truth of Sacred Scripture

Book Description

In his 2009 post-synodal apostolic exhortation Verbum Domini, Pope Benedict XVI pointed out that “theological reflection has always considered inspiration and truth as two key concepts for an ecclesial hermeneutic of the sacred Scriptures” and that there is today the need “for a fuller and more adequate study of these realities, in order to better respond to the need of interpreting the sacred texts in accordance with their nature.” The Inspiration and Truth of Sacred Scripture: The Word That Comes from God and Speaks of God for the Salvation of the World is the contribution of the Pontifical Biblical Commission toward a more adequate understanding of the concepts of inspiration and truth that respects both the nature of the Bible and its significance for the life of the Church. Drawing on a close reading of the Scriptures themselves, the document focuses on three main aspects:1. The inspiration of Sacred Scripture and the exploration of its divine provenance2. The truth of the Word of God, emphasizing the message about God and his project of salvation3. Challenges that arise from the Bible itself, on account of certain aspects that seem inconsistent with its quality of being the Word of God Reading this document, formally approved by Pope Francis, will strengthen the reader to receive the word of God—in the liturgical assembly and in every other place—in its theological, Christological, soteriological, and ecclesiological context in a way that corresponds ever more closely to this unique gift of God whereby God communicates his very self and invites us into communion with him.
