When Butterflies Howl and Hyenas Kiss is a collection of 21 poems that invites you into a world where the boundaries between the personal and the universal blur—a space where the sensory, emotional, and contemplative converge. Dualities such as dark and light, life and death, pleasure and pain, stagnation and flow, are interwoven throughout. The verses gently nudge you to confront the apparent contradictions inherent in the nature of existence, offering glimpses of reconciliation and hope. Seamlessly blending deeply personal experiences with broader philosophical reflections, the collection emerges from an authentic voice, unburdened by any preconceived intentions of writing or publishing. At its heart, the rhymes invite you to pause and reflect on your own journey. If you seek poetry that lingers, sparking quiet contemplation and emotional resonance, this one is for you! Let’s pause for a moment To breathe into the gap Between two letters, Two words, two notes unwrapped Herein where the magic rests Like in the synaptic clefts When an axon lights, before a dendrite strikes Lies the story of our lives.

Long before we had a body, even long before there were bodies, there was consciousness, there existed spiritual beings. All existing beings come from the numinous source. Step by step we come closer - until we incarnate into a human body. This book will sharpen the view: we may recognise where we come from and who we actually are. The author explains the stages we go through as spiritual beings on our decent into incarnation, The many difficulties and questions we face in our being human thus become easier comprehensible. Furthermore, the book offers instructions how a spiritual path - that is the return to spiritual freedom - can be achieved, in life as well as after death. Clearly structured, with numerous examples, Meditations and an impressive Model on the path of truth and love.

I was ordered to attack a Pakistan’s-very strong defensive position, opposite me on the same night. It made no sense to me, particularly when my entire Brigade Sector was under intense shelling and Pakistan, having the initiative could attack that night. Under the then prevailing circumstances I was certain that lifting of troops from one of my forward infantry battalions would unbalance me and I, therefore, had no option but to refuse the GOCs order. He was livid and very angry and that led to my fighting Maj Gen E’Desouza rather than Pakistan during the fortnight of the War. For all my subsequent offensive actions, he refused to give me any additional troops from his reserve Brigade, which was located in my Sector only and that too without any ground holding responsibility or any other commitment. We, of course, did our best but that was not good enough. My Brigade would have achieved much more, if additional resources had been allotted to me by the GOC for specific tasks. In this bargain the Indian Army and the Nation lost a golden opportunity to capture real estate in POK. —Excerpt from the book This book by Lt Gen KK Nanda serves a good purpose in portraying important aspects of Army life in Operational Areas and during War.
