The Indian Ocean and its Role in the Global Climate System provides an overview of our contemporary understanding of the Indian Ocean (geology, atmosphere, ocean, hydrology, biogeochemistry) and its role in the climate system. In this book, I present a set of papers that I participated in as a single and main author, which were in the field of remote sensing (RS) of Kuwait environment. Here, RS applications vary in physical geography fields as following: geomorphology, climatology, biogeography, oceanography. Specifically: urban air pollution, marine biogeography, coastal geomorphology and oceanography. Through this research, I hope to increase our understanding of the natural environment of the State of Kuwait and the issues it suffers from a different perspective from space. The State of Kuwait is located in the northeast of the Arabian Peninsula, where it is bordered by Iraq in the north and Saudi Arabia in the west and south. It is located between latitudes 28° 30’ and 30° 05’ North, and longitude 47° 30’ and 48° 36’ East. The results of these studies will help decision-makers in Kuwait to protect the environment and develop appropriate legislation to achieve green and blue sustainability. I also hope to high-light the importance of this technology in the environmental studies and invest in it as one of the most important modern technology in monitoring, understanding and protecting the natural environment. Finally, I present this knowledge to you as an indication of what contemporary geographers. Hope of making better use of the specialists in this field. Remote sensing is the science of extracting data and information from space without touching using the reflected and emitted radiation from the sun. This extraction and detection could be done by satellite in a term of images, or drone in a term of photos. The extracted data from the sensors have to be processed and analysed using specialized geographic information system and remote sensing software.

Sedimentary habitats cover the vast majority of the ocean floor and constitute the largest ecosystem on Earth. These systems supply fundamental services to human beings, such as food production and nutrient recycling. It is well known that meiofauna are an abundant and ubiquitous component of sediments, even though their biodiversity and importance in marine ecosystem functioning remain to be fully investigated. In this book, the meiofaunal biodiversity trends in marine habitats worldwide are documented, along with the collection of empirical evidence on their role in ecosystem services, such as the production, consumption, and decomposition of organic matter, and energy transfer to higher and lower trophic levels. Meiofaunal activities, like feeding and bioturbation, induce changes in several physico-chemical and biological properties of sediments, and might increase the resilience of the benthic ecosystem processes that are essential for the supply of ecosystem goods and services required by humans. As a key component of marine habitats, the taxonomical and functional aspects of the meiofaunal community are also used for the ecological assessment of the sediments’ quality status, providing important information on the anthropogenic impact of benthos.

The Arabian Seas Marine Region encompasses marine areas from Djibouti to Pakistan, including the northern part of Somalia, the Red Sea, the Arabian/Persian Gulf, and parts of the Arabian Sea. Human pressures on the coastal and marine environments are evident throughout the region, and have resulted in harmful environmental effects. Oil and domestic, urban and industrial pollutants in several areas of this part of the world have caused local habitat degradation, eutrophication and algal blooms. Further, coastal landfill, dredging, and sedimentation, as well as nutrient and sediment runoff from phosphate mining, agriculture and grazing, and reduction in freshwater seepage due to groundwater extraction are all contributing to the degradation of coastal environments. This book discusses aspects not covered in other books on the region, which largely focus on marine biodiversity, and examines several environmental challenges that are often ignored, but which have a significant impact on the environment. Evaluating the status quo, it also recommends conservation measures and examines the abiotic factors that play a major main role in the environmental changes.
