OECD Economic Surveys: Sweden 2021

Book Description

Resolute policy action to protect households and businesses has mitigated the pandemic’s toll on the Swedish economy, which nevertheless contracted sharply in 2020. Growth is picking up on the back of strong manufacturing activity and exports, while vaccination brings hope for a gradual return to normality in sectors requiring face-to-face interaction.

Book Description

Resolute policy action to protect households and businesses has mitigated the pandemic's toll on the Swedish economy, which nevertheless contracted sharply in 2020. Growth is picking up on the back of strong manufacturing activity and exports, while vaccination brings hope for a gradual return to normality in sectors requiring face-to-face interaction. Nevertheless, fiscal support and accommodative monetary policy will remain necessary until the recovery is well established. Government measures to expand education and training and to enhance job matching, along with the implementation of the labour market reforms agreed by the social partners, will help employment recover, particularly among the most vulnerable groups, which have been worst hit by the pandemic. Fostering inclusive growth throughout Sweden will require upgrading the sub-national government fiscal framework, enhancing public service efficiency, especially through digitalisation, and promoting regional convergence further, especially by strengthening the role of universities in regional knowledge and innovation networks

OECD Economic Surveys: Turkey 2021

Book Description

After initial success in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and a strong economic rebound, Turkey faces a resurgence of cases which puts pressure on the country’s health system, public resources, social cohesion and macroeconomic sustainability. Public finances offer room for government support to the households and businesses most in need, but this should be provided under a more transparent and predictable fiscal, quasi-fiscal, monetary and financial policy framework.

OECD Economic Surveys: Sweden 2019

Book Description

The Swedish economy is growing steadily, but the expansion has peaked and global uncertainties weigh on the outlook. Monetary and fiscal stimulus has supported the recovery, but is being gradually withdrawn as the economy operates close to full capacity. Strong public finances provide space for fiscal loosening in the case of a downturn, especially as low interest rates reduce monetary policy margins. Beyond a strong economy, Sweden enjoys high well-being, low inequality and strong environmental performance.
