Each county narrative is supported by historical accounts from witnesses, newspapers, and legal documents. Maps show the geographic extent of major courthouse fires. Record losses are described in general terms, helping researchers understand which events are most likely to affect their work.

Book Description

Thomas Kenan was born about 1700, either in Scotland or Ireland, and married Elizabeth Johnston in Armagh, Ireland. In 1730 they immigrated to Wilmington, North Carolina and later moved to New Hanover (now Duplin) Co., North Carolina, where he died in 1765.
