From Time to Time, 1927-1987 (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from From Time to Time, 1927-1987 High school is said to be four of the best years ofour lives. To some, it is a time to learn and prepare for the future. But more than all that, high school is a time to have fun. Although some things never change, the definition of fun has changed in a big way over the past 60 years. In the earlier days of W - L, a large majority of the school attended the football games on Fri day nights. Although the attendance at games has increased in recent years, the stadium was far from sold out. Even so, our team always put out their best ef fort. In the '50's and '60's, the go-go boys increased the school spirit. They were athletes who attended other sporting events during their off-season. The basketball, crew and baseball teams would attend the football games and vice versa. Dances used to be a big thing here in Arlington. Students would grab a date and cruise on over 'to W - L's gym in Daddy's Studebaker. The tradition of attending school dances did not carry over into the '80's. Nowadays, if one has a date, he avoids the w-l dances. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Latin School Register, Vol. 16

Book Description

Excerpt from Latin School Register, Vol. 16: September, 1896 Frank W. Lowe has been chosen captain of the football team. The selection is a wise one. Lowe certainly has earned the honor by his three years of earnest effort at guard. Our congratulations and best wishes for his success. Let us make this a banner year for athletics. Let everyone who has any leaning toward any branch of athletics come out and practise with the team. Everyone will be given a fair chance of winning a position on any of the three teams. The football team is in need of many new players this year. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Baxter's Second Innings

Book Description

Excerpt from Baxter's Second Innings: Specially Reported for the School Team I think the best thing I can do, if I must make a Preface, is to print this letter from Baxter's small brother to another boy: - Dear Charlie, Would you believe it? some fellow's written a Book about Fred! I think he's in an awful wax. N.B. The Book's a swindle. Except the story of a Castle (and one about a soldier or something) it's all yam. I've not read it. What a licking we gave the Junior Pelican! I made 13, but they bowl frightful sneaks. Please tell Whitemouse to send me the crib to Caesar instanter. Yours ever, Mike. P.S. Don't cut me for sending that book about Fred. I had to. And for my sake don't open it till Sunday. P.P.S. Monday. I've read it. It gets awfully serious some places. By the way, tell Whitemouse never to mind that crib just now.
