Optimum Aerodynamic Design Via Boundary Control

Book Description

Abstract: "These lectures describe the implementation of optimization techniques based on control theory for airfoil and wing design. In previous studies [10,11] it was shown that control theory could be used to devise an effective optimization procedure for two-dimensional profiles in which the shape is determined by a conformal transformation from a unit circle, and the control is the mapping function. Recently the method has been implemented in an alternative formulation which does not depend on conformal mapping, so that it can more easily be extended to treat general configurations [16]. The method has also been extended to treat the Euler equations, and results are presented for both two and three dimensional cases, including the optimization of a swept wing."

Computational Fluid Dynamics for the 21st Century

Book Description

This volume contains new trends of computational fluid dynamics for the 21st century and consists of papers especially useful to the younger generation of scientists and engineers in this field. Topics include cartesian, gridless and higher-order schemes, and flow-visualization techniques.

Computational Mathematics Driven by Industrial Problems

Book Description

These lecture notes by very authoritative scientists survey recent advances of mathematics driven by industrial application showing not only how mathematics is applied to industry but also how mathematics has drawn benefit from interaction with real-word problems. The famous David Report underlines that innovative high technology depends crucially for its development on innovation in mathematics. The speakers include three recent presidents of ECMI, one of ECCOMAS (in Europe) and the president of SIAM.

Computational Aerodynamics

Book Description

Computational aerodynamics is a relatively new field in engineering that investigates aircraft flow fields via the simulation of fluid motion and sophisticated numerical algorithms. This book provides an excellent reference to the subject for a wide audience, from graduate students to experienced researchers and professionals in the aerospace engineering field. Opening with the essential elements of computational aerodynamics, the relevant mathematical methods of fluid flow and numerical methods for partial differential equations are presented. Stability theory and shock capturing schemes, and vicious flow and time integration methods are then comprehensively outlined. The final chapters treat more advanced material, including energy stability for nonlinear problems, and higher order methods for unstructured and structured meshes. Presenting over 150 illustrations, including representative calculations on unstructured meshes in color. This book is a rich source of information that will be of interest and importance in this pioneering field.
