Zunächst wird das Thema der Arbeit genauer definiert, bevor es im nächsten Teil um die verschiedenen diagnostischen Verfahren geht. Hierbei wird zwischen formellen und informellen Verfahren unterschieden und näher auf Gütekriterien wie Objektivität, Reliabilität und Validität eingegangen, sowie auf die Prozesse der Normierung und Standardisierung. Nach diesem theoretischen Teil folgt dann die Analyse eines Testverfahrens (Hamburger Lesetest 1), welches im Anschluss mit drei anderen, im Seminar besprochenen, Testverfahren verglichen wird (Subtraktionsarbeit, IleA-Mathematik und Delfin 5). Danach schließen sich eine Zusammenfassung aller Punkte, sowie eine persönliche Einschätzung der Autorin an.
