Interpretando Antígona

Book Description

Descripción / Resumen (Inglés): The current publication, entitled Folksonomies, sets out the contents of a selection of works I have done lately and it recounts its exhibit walkthrough, organized on the basis of two individual projects which run parallel throughout 2016. One of them relates to the works arising from my interest in Big Data and which is composed of different accounts with works in painting, mural installation and drawing. It is the project I have called Sombras_Big_Dat@. The second Project is about my activity around engraving, silk screen printing and digital printing which I have named 32 bits_memoria_grafica. The book is thus structured in two parts, starting with the Sombras_Big_Dat@ project and specifically, its showing at the Salamanca Museum, as I have shown here the set of works which comprise the project in the best conditions of space and illumination, which afforded us to collect some interesting photographic scenes on site and views of works which render quite an accurate idea of the jobs I have done. The second part of this publication documents the exhibition called 32_bits_memoria_grafica, with works in engraving and printed work. Throughout my career, creating projects with these means has been and still is crucial: not only does it complement the creative activity I do with other disciplines, but it also provides me with other channels for my thoughts and presentation of ideas. The council of the Arts Engraving Museum chose my project and I was offered a chance to show a walkthrough of several years of activity which I structured on the basis of eight thematic axes: Energies, Presences, Dialogs, Silences, Places and territories, Echos and appearances, Human schemes and Dream landscapes, around which 32 works spin, executed with chalcographic engraving, digital printing and silk screen printing. The set of works grouped in such fashion composed a remarkable atmosphere which contributed to the understanding and tuning in with the works and their crossed meanings.

The Right and the Nation

Book Description

This book explores the influence of right-wing political cultures (including conservatism, political Catholicism, reactionary nationalism and fascism) on nation-building processes and the creation of national identities in modern times. The chapters extend the focus of analysis across the different cultures and movements of the Right, their broad geographical spread, as well as cultural factors. Adopting a transnational perspective, this volume highlights the significance of a series of processes – such as the growth of nationalist imaginaries and political cultures – that extended beyond national boundaries and were often articulated via cross-border dynamics. Special attention is paid to the political cultures and transnational networks of the Right in Europe and Latin America. Case studies including countries such as Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Brazil and Argentina provide the reader with a broad overview of the circulation of right-wing and conservative thinking. Through an innovative approach, this volume offers scholars, students and the interested reader a valuable historical perspective to understand the development and expansion of right-wing nationalist and authoritarian positions.

International Human Rights Law in a Global Context

Book Description

The international human rights system remains as dynamic as ever. If at the end of the last century there was a sense that the normative and institutional development of the system had been completed and that the emphasis should shift to issues of implementation, nothing of the sort occurred. Even over the last few years significant changes happened, as this book amply demonstrates. We hope that this Manual makes a contribution to the development of International Human Rights Law and is of interest for those working in the field of promotion and protection of human rights. The book is the result of a joint project under the auspices of HumanitarianNet, a Thematic Network led by the University of Deusto, and the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC, Venice).

The Aesthetics of the Ephemeral

Book Description

Analyzes theatrical texts and performances while providing political and historical mappings. In The Aesthetics of the Ephemeral, Jennifer Duprey examines five contemporary plays from Barcelona: Olors and Testament by Josep Maria Benet i Jornet, Antígona by Jordi Coca, Forasters by Sergi Belbel, and Temptació by Carles Batlle. She argues that in both the theatrical text and its performance an aesthetics of the ephemeral materializes that is related to specific manifestations of cultural and historical memory in Spain and Catalonia. These manifestations of memory include historical concerns such as the possibility of another form of justice in predicaments of violence after the Civil War, and they also include contemporary issues such as the production of ruins by the processes of gentrification in Barcelona, the complexity of immigration in Spain, and the destruction or preservation of Catalan cultural legacies. In her analysis of these topics, Duprey engages and expands on theories related to questions of subjectivity and identity in late modernity. This book will be of interest to those concerned with Iberian cultural studies and with how theater reflects on and contributes to contemporary political dialogue.
