The book is based on nine selected, peer-reviewed papers presented at the 10th biennial Networked Learning Conference (NLC) 2016 held in Lancaster. Informed by suggestions from delegates, the nine papers have been chosen by the editors (who were the Chairs of the Conference) as exemplars of cutting edge research on networked learning. Further reviews of all papers were conducted once they were revised as chapters for the book. The chapters are organized into two sections: 1) Situating Networked Learning: Looking Back - Moving Forward, 2) New Challenges: Designs for Networked Learning in the Public Arena. Further, we include an introduction which looks at the evolution of trends in Networked Learning through a semantic analysis of conference papers from the 10 conferences. A final chapter draws out perspectives from the chapters and discusses emerging issues. The book is the fifth in the Networked Learning Conference Series.

This book explores the resurgence of interest in phenomenology as aphilosophy and research movement among scholars in education, thehumanities and social sciences. Brings together a series of essays by an international team ofphilosophers and educationalists Juxtaposes diverse approaches to phenomenological inquiry andaddresses questions of significance for education today Demonstrates why phenomenology is a contemporary movement thatis both dynamic and varied Highlights ways in which phenomenology can inform a broad rangeof aspects of educational theorising and practice, includinglearning through the body, writing online, being an authenticteacher, ambiguities in becoming professionals, and schooltransition

Phenomenology is a rich and varied approach in the world of qualitative research. This book will draw upon phenomenological methods and methodology, including but not limited to hermeneutical and descriptive approaches, to study education from K-12 to university and teacher-focused inquiry. It will enrich the field of research methodology by promoting a greater understanding of phenomenology and applying it to studies in the realm of education. Phenomenological Studies in Education explores and applies methods associated with phenomenological work to build knowledge of experiences in education and pedagogy. Covering topics such as building inclusive environments, descriptive phenomenology, and phenomenological interviewing experiences, this book is ideal for researchers in educational studies, qualitative researchers, and students studying education.

The chapters in this book build upon selected research papers from the 12th International Networked Learning Conference 2020, hosted by University of Southern Denmark, Kolding. The selected chapters were chosen as cutting-edge research on networked learning which reflected focal discussion points during the conference such as: new demands on teachers in online and hybrid learning environments; organization of professional learning to meet and reflect on these demands; support of educators and students’ digital literacy; the interaction of human and technological agents in networked learning; and the development of new of networked learning designs to critically and creatively make use of technological possibilities. The book is organized into three main sections: 1) Professional learning, 2) Learning networks’ development and use of digital resources, and 3) Innovating Networked Learning. Preceding the three main sections is a first chapter, which presents a discourse analysis of how the term “networked learning” has been used in the papers at previous Networked Learning Conferences. The concluding chapter draws out perspectives from the chapters and point to emerging issues within the field of networked learning.

In this text, the history of phenomenological research on learning is synthesized and brought forward into the areas of existential learning, the development of enthusiasm about learning (from childhood through adulthood), and paradigmatic creative experience. Original research findings are derived using the Giorgi method of descriptive phenomenological analysis in psychology. The results, structural and eidetic in nature, are then integrated from a holistic developmental viewpoint: that of Existential-Humanistic Self-Development Theory (EHSDT). An evolving developmental partnership between learning and creativity emerges as the proper conceptual frame for considering optimal growth and the relative maturity of situated becoming oneself (i.e., the process of self-cultivation). The resulting perspective is supported by cutting edge trends in neuroscience and related to pedagogy and education.

This book presents cutting-edge, peer reviewed research on networked learning organized by three themes: policy in networked learning, researching networked learning, and boundaries in networked learning. The "policy in networked learning" section explores networked learning in relation to policy networks, spaces of algorithmic governance and more. The "boundaries in networked learning" section investigates frameworks of students' digital literacy practices, among other important frameworks in digital learning. Lastly, the "research in networked learning" section delves into new research methods in the field.

This is an accessible, concise introduction to phenomenological research in education and social sciences. Mark Vagle outlines the key principles for conducting this research from leading contemporary practitioners, such as van Manen, Giorgi, and Dahlberg. He builds on their work by introducing his post-intentional phenomenology, which incorporates elements of post-structural thinking into traditional methods. Vagle provides readers with methodological tools to build their own phenomenological study, addressing such issues as data gathering, validity, and writing. Replete with exercises for students, case studies, resources for further research, and examples of completed phenomenological studies, this brief book affords the instructor an easy entrée into introducing phenomenology into courses on qualitative research, social theory, or educational research.

Building off the success of its award-winning first edition, the second edition of Crafting Phenomenological Research continues to be the leading resource for those interested in a concise introduction to phenomenological research in education and social sciences. Joining leading contemporary practitioners, such as van Manen, Giorgi, and Dahlberg, Vagle walks the reader through multiple approaches to designing and implementing phenomenological research, including his post-intentional phenomenology, which incorporates elements of post-structural thinking into traditional methods. Vagle provides readers with methodological tools to build their own phenomenological study, addressing such issues as research design, data gathering and analysis, and writing. Replete with exercises for students, resources for further research, and examples of completed phenomenological studies, this book affords the instructor an easy entrée into introducing phenomenology into courses on qualitative research, social theory, or educational research. New to this edition: An additional first chapter that outlines the historical background of phenomenological philosophy and methodology. A feature called "snapshots" that provides brief commentary and/or examples to illustrate concepts and ideas. Updated "resource digs" providing more examples, with the addition of more international resources.
