Prime Contract Awards by Region and State is published annually. This issue provides information on the geographical distribution of Department of Defense prime contract awards over $25,000 for Fiscal Years (FYs) 1992, 1991, and 1990 by the United States region and state. This information is detailed in ten tables and three figures showing: (1) The net value and percent distribution of awards, by region and state, for FYs 1992, 1991, and 1990; (2) The net value and percent distribution of awards within the seven major hard goods programs, by region, for FYs 1992, 1991, and 1990; (3) The net value and percent distribution of awards in the 25 major procurement programs for each state for FYs 1992, 1991, and 1990; and (4) The net value and percent distribution of awards for research, development, test, and evaluation, by region and state, according to the type of contractor for FYs 1992, 1991, and 1990.

Book Description

This report includes summary data on Department of Defense (DoD) prime contract awards over $25,000 by Service Category and Federal Supply Classification (FSC) for four Fiscal Years (FY), FY 1991, FY 1990, FY 1989, and FY 1988. These are displayed in Tables 1, 2, and 3. Only the current fiscal year data are displayed in Table 4. Awards of $25,000 or less are covered in Exhibits A and B, which are discussed along with Exhibits C through F in the HIGHLIGHTS section of this introduction. Table 1 - This table covers awards for Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT and E) services. Data are displayed according to DoD procurement program categories. Table 2 - Data on awards for Other Services and Construction are provided in Table 2, arrayed according to Federal Procurement Data System codes and descriptions. This structure, which covers all non-RDT and E services, is composed of 23 groups and approximately 1 500 individual classes. Some of the groups which are shown in Table 2 include Construction of Structures and Facilities, Operation of Government-Owned Facilities, Lease or Rental of Equipment, and Utilities and Housekeeping Services. This system, now employed as a federal requirement, was originally developed for the purpose of reporting the procurement of services other than RDT and E.

Prime Contract Awards by State provides a wide variety of information on all Department of Defense (DoD) procurement actions. Both military and civil functions (i.e., U.S. Army Corps of Engineers--Civil Works) procurements are represented. The data are presented by state and include the net value of procurements awarded to each state as well as each state's percentage of the total for all state procurements. The total net value of procurement actions for Fiscal Year (FY) 1990 and FY 1989 are shown for all of DoD in Table 1 and for its military components only in Table 2. These tables also provide, for comparison purposes, data for the fourth quarters of FY 1990 and FY 1989. The total net value of military procurement actions for FY 1990 (presented in Table 2) are displayed according to Defense Component in Table 3. Table 4 displays the total net value of military procurement actions for Fy 1988 through FY 1990. Data on the total net value of civil function procurement actions are provided in Table 5 for FY 1988 through FY 1990.
