This book presents the proceedings of the 11th IFToMM International Conference on Rotordynamics, held in Beijing, China on 18-21 September 2023. This conference is a premier global event that brings together specialists from the university and industry sectors worldwide in order to promote the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and information on the latest developments and applied technologies in the dynamics of rotating machinery. The coverage is wide ranging, including, for example, new ideas and trends in various aspects of bearing technologies, issues in the analysis of blade dynamic behavior, condition monitoring of different rotating machines, vibration control, electromechanical and fluid-structure interactions in rotating machinery, rotor dynamics of micro, nano and cryogenic machines, and applications of rotor dynamics in transportation engineering. Since its inception 32 years ago, this conference has become an irreplaceable point of reference for those working in the field and this book reflects the high quality and diversity of content that the conference continues to guarantee.

Ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) can withstand higher temperatures, reduce cooling airflow, improve turbine efficiency, and greatly reduce structural mass compared to the high temperature alloys. This book focuses on the matrix first/multiple cracking, crack opening and closure behavior in CMCs at high temperatures. While conducting in situ experimental observations to analyze the damage mechanisms and failure modes, the author develops micromechanical damage models and constitutive models to predict the first matrix cracking stress, multiple matrix cracking density, matrix crack opening displacement, and cracking closure stress at high temperatures. The effects of composite’s constituent properties, stress level, and ambient temperature on matrix cracking, opening, and closure are also discussed. This book will help material scientists and engineering designers to understand and master the matrix cracking and closure behavior of fiber-reinforced CMCs.

Techno-Economic Challenges of Green Ammonia as an Energy Vector presents the fundamentals, techno-economic challenges, applications, and state-of-the-art research in using green ammonia as a route toward the hydrogen economy. This book presents practical implications and case studies of a great variety of methods to recover stored energy from ammonia and use it for power, along with transport and heating applications, including its production, storage, transportation, regulations, public perception, and safety aspects. As a unique reference in this field, this book can be used both as a handbook by researchers and a source of background knowledge by graduate students developing technologies in the fields of hydrogen economy, hydrogen energy, and energy storage. - Includes glossaries, case studies, practical concepts, and legal, public perception, and policy viewpoints that allow for thorough, practical understanding of the use of ammonia as energy carrier - Presents its content in a modular structure that can be used in sequence, as a handbook, in individual parts or as a field reference - Explores the use of ammonia, both as a medium for hydrogen storage and an energy vector unto itself
