These proceedings cover topics related to Quasicrystals, including tiling descriptions, high dimensional crystallography, structure studies, metallurgy and phase diagrams, and also properties with special emphasis on dynamics, electronic and mechanical behaviour. For the first time, materials made of metals only that behave as insulators are presented. For the first time also application focused research and processing of Quasicrystalline materials are addressed.Invited speakers: J Friedel, D Shechtman, M Baake, D Basov, C Berger, M de Boissieu, T Fujiwara, S Khanna, Y Meyer, S J Poon, C Sire, H Trebin, A P Tsai, M Widdom, M Wollgarten, Z Zhang.

Progress in our knowledge of thermodynamics and physico-chemical factors in manganese ferroalloy production has developed rapidly during the past twenty-five years or so. The authors' intention has been to use this basic knowledge in discussions of industrial manganese ferroalloy production. The book presents the principles and current knowledge of processes in the production of high carbon ferromanganese, silicomanganese and low carbon manganese alloys. The book is intended for professionals working in production, plant design or development. It will also be useful for researchers in industry, universities and research institutes. The book can be used as a textbook for courses in extractive and process metallurgy, and for company in-house courses. Thermodynamics of the slag and metal systems are extensively covered. Computational modelling based on assessed thermochemical databases has made it possible to calculate and present a large number of phase and equilibrium diagrams. These diagrams are useful for easy understanding and analysis of the complex heterogeneous equilibria in the manganese ferroalloy metallurgy. The manganese ferroalloys are mainly produced in electric submerged arc furnaces. Electrical relations are briefly discussed. Supply of raw materials, especially manganese ores and coke, is extremely important for the manganese industry. The book gives the reader appropriate knowledge regarding the selection the best of available raw materials. Environmental issues, including greenhouse gas emissions and climate changes, are of growing concern to ferroalloy producers. Carbon will always be needed as a reducing agent, and consequently emission of CO2 gas is inevitable. The book describes solutions to dealing with pollution problems and gives the latest guidelines for greenhouse gas inventories.

This book highlights recent findings in industrial, manufacturing and mechanical engineering, and provides an overview of the state of the art in these fields, mainly in Russia and Eastern Europe. A broad range of topics and issues in modern engineering are discussed, including the dynamics of machines and working processes, friction, wear and lubrication in machines, surface transport and technological machines, manufacturing engineering of industrial facilities, materials engineering, metallurgy, control systems and their industrial applications, industrial mechatronics, automation and robotics. The book gathers selected papers presented at the 5th International Conference on Industrial Engineering (ICIE), held in Sochi, Russia in March 2019. The authors are experts in various fields of engineering, and all papers have been carefully reviewed. Given its scope, the book will be of interest to a wide readership, including mechanical and production engineers, lecturers in engineering disciplines, and engineering graduates.

This book represents a collection of 30 selected papers from the work of John W. Cahn. Dr. Cahn is Senior Fellow at the Materials Science and Engineering Laboratory of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and is widely recognized as a founder of modern theory and thought in materials science. The range of his research included kinetics and mechanisms of metallurgical phase changes, surfaces, interfaces, defects, quasicrystals, thermodynamics, and other areas impacting the fundamental understanding of materials science. Each paper includes a 2-4 page review of the impact and historical perspective of the work. This is an important collection for students, instructors, and scientists interested in materials science.

Volume six of the proceedings considers the application of chemical oxidation to environmental problems, particularly treating wastewater, groundwater, hazardous waste, and air. Among the 22 topics are the design of an advanced oxidation process for decolorizing reactive dye waste using Fenton's reagent, a comparison of chlorine and bromine for chemical oxidation and disinfection, chlorine dioxide for disinfecting secondary effluent, oxidizing secondary alcohols and sulfides by halamine polymers, the wet-air oxidation of phenolic compounds, and the catalyzed chemical oxidation of VOCs.
