The book gives an extended review of theoretical and observational aspects of neutron star physics. With masses comparable to that of the Sun and radii of about ten kilometres, neutron stars are the densest stars in the Universe. This book describes all layers of neutron stars, from the surface to the core, with the emphasis on their structure and equation of state. Theories of dense matter are reviewed, and used to construct neutron star models. Hypothetical strange quark stars and possible exotic phases in neutron star cores are also discussed. Also covered are the effects of strong magnetic fields in neutron star envelopes.

A key source to journal and conference abbreviations in the sciences. Although it focuses on chemistry, other scientific and engineering disciplines are also well represented. In addition to the abbreviation and full title, each entry also contains publishing info, title changes, language and frequency of publication, and libraries owning that title. Over 130,000 entries representing more than 70,000 publications dating back to 1907 are included.

This collection of nearly forty essays in honor of the noted physicist and cosmologist Engelbert Schucking spans the gamut of research in Einsteins theory of general relativity and presents a lively and personal account of current work in the field. Indispensable for physicists involved in research in the field, the book includes important chapters by noted theorists such as A. Ashtekar, P.G. Bergmann, J. Ehlers, E.T. Newman, J.V. Narlikar, R. Penrose, D.W. Sciama, J. Stachel, and W. Rindler.

This collection of papers by the renowned physicist, T.D. Lee, covers the four main areas of his work since 1985: soliton stars and black holes; discrete physics; condensed matter and many-body systems; and relativistic heavy ion collisions, particle physics and field theory. In addition, the book contains several of Professor Lee's lectures on such topics as the evolution of physics in this century and the strong link between the sciences and the arts.
