Book Description
Excerpt from Proceedings of the Grand Lodge of the Province of Ontario, Canada: Forty-Eight Annual Session Held at Toronto, August 13th and 14th, 1902 The city would open wide its doors and gates to the delegates, whose visit in the city, he hoped, would be pleasant and profitable to the highest interests of the Order, which he knew as one second to no fraternal organization in America. These welcome addresses being extempore a complete record was not obtained. The Grand Master, Bro. Chas. Clifford Lyman, replied to the Aldermen in a short, pithy speech, accepting for the Grand Lodge the cordial welcome and hearty greetings so kindly expressed. Bro. W. S. Johnston, Grand Marshal, then introduced Bro. R. C. Morrison, District Deputy Grand Master, who, on behalf of the Toronto District, No. 19, read the following address of cordial welcome to the Queen City : Grand Master, Officers and Members of the Grand Lodge 0/ Ontario : Brethren, - It is with the greatest pleasure that on behalf of Toronto District, No. 19, I.O.O.F., I extend to your Grand Body a hearty and cordial welcome to the Metropolitan City of Toronto. Just three years ago we had the pleasure of receiving the Grand Lodge in our city and while we hardly expected you to visit us so soon again, we feel satisfied that your choice is a good one, that you know a good place when you sec it. and we therefore extend to you all the right hand of fellowship and wish you Godspeed in all your deliberations. Toronto, No. 19, is at the present time (as it should be) the Banner District of Ontario and numbers within its membership of over 2,000 a body of men of whom any society may justly feel proud, who are linked together by the bonds of Friendship, Love and Truth, and while you tarry with us for a short time, we hope to become better acquainted and know some of the good fellows who comprise the jurisdiction of Ontario, and while we are not. as a District, providing any set programme for your entertainment, yet we feel satisfied that our fair city affords sources of entertainments within its borders, both social and instructive, so that all our visitors may enjoy themselves as they may wish and go home feeling that it was good to be here.
