Quaternary Geology of the Stratford-Conestogo Area, Ontario

Book Description

The Stratford-Conestogo area is mid-way between Lakes Huron and Ontario in southwestern Ontario, and lies between the cities of Stratford and Kitchener. Because of its central location, it was subject to the action of the Huron, Georgian Bay, Ontario, and Erie ice lobes at various times and when the glacier was at its maximum, ice flowed across the area from the northeast. Tazewellian Catfish Creek Till (sandy texture) is found throughout the area under as many as three or four Cary tills, usually of a clayey or silty texture. As many as three pre-Tazewellian tills (probably all of Wisconsinian age) occur in the eastern part of the area.

Preliminary Correlation of Post-Erie Interstadial Events (16,000-10,000 Radiocarbon Years Before Present), Central and Eastern Great Lakes Region, and Hudson, Champlain, and St. Lawrence Lowlands, United States and Canada

Book Description

A correlation of glacial and proglacial lakes, glacial tills, end moraines, and related features from eastern Wisconsin to western Vermont and Quebec.

Glacial Sedimentary Processes and Products

Book Description

Associating ice masses with the transport and deposition ofsediments has long formed a central theme in glaciology and glacialgeomorphology. The reason for this focus is clear, in that icemasses are responsible for much of the physical landscape whichcharacterizes the Earth's glaciated regions. This association alsoholds at a variety of scales, for example, from the grain-sizecharacteristics of small-scale moraines to the structuralarchitecture of large-scale, glacigenic sedimentary sequences inboth surface and subaqueous environments. This volume brings numerous state-of-the-art research contributionstogether, each relating to a different physical setting, spatialscale, process or investigative technique. The result is a diverseand interesting collection of papers by glaciologists, numericalmodellers and glacial geologists, which are all linked by the themeof investigating the relationships between the behaviour of icemasses and their resulting sedimentary sequences.
