Geology of the Precambrian Superior and Grenville Provinces and Precambian Fossils in North America

Book Description

This volume contains a description of the geology and mineral deposits of the Superior Province of the Canadian Shield, an overview of Grenville Province geology, and a synopsis of Precambrian fossil occurrences in North America. Six large plates include a geological map of Canada, geological map of the Grenville Province, lithotectonic map of the Superior Province, Archean mineral deposit map of the Superior Province, and more.

The Indians of Quetico

Book Description

A fascinating picture of the industrious life of the Ojibwa before the coming of the white man. The Indians lived in an intimate relationship with the forest and the spiritual forces they found in nature. They were completely dependent on wild game, trees, and plants for their food, their clothing, and their dwellings, and they realized that it was in their best interest to protect these things, to ensure their livelihood year after year and for the generations to come. The author traces the outlines of this Indian civilization—the Ojibwa's social organization, family life, the quest for food, their handicrafts, and the world of the supernatural with which they lived in such intimacy. The result is an authoritative and entertaining account. The book contains 8 photographs, 25 line drawings and two-colour end-paper map.

Geology and Mineral Potential of the Upper and Middle Shebandowan Lakes Area, West-central Shebandowan Greenstone Belt

Book Description

Summarises results of Precambrian mapping conducted in a study area covering about 200 square kilometres and located about 110 kilometres west of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Includes a summary of the area's mineral exploration history, descriptions of the area's general geology, rock types, metamorphism, igneous rock geochemistry, structural geology, and economic geology. Base and precious metal occurrences are described, as represented by three major styles of mineralisation in the study area: stratigraphically controlled, intrusion hosted, and shear/quartz vein hosted. Concludes with recommendations for future exploration.

Precambrian Geology of the Atikokan Area, Northwestern Ontario

Book Description

The Eye-Dashwa pluton is among the youngest major intrusions in the Atikokan area and is compositionally zoned from a quartz monzodiorite rim to a granite core. This report provides the regional geological setting of the Eye-Dashwa pluton by defining geological boundaries as well as mineralogical, petrological, and geochemical characteristics of the pluton and neighbouring lithological units. Major structural fractures and metamorphic conditions are discussed, and using isotopic age data, the geological events affecting the Archean crust in the area is examined. Certain unresolved problems in Archean geology of the area are identified.
