Excerpt from Raffaello d'Urbino e IL Padre Suo Giovanni Santi, Vol. 2 È scorso molto tempo da quando cominciai a tra durre quest' opera così importante alla storia delle Arti italiane, poichè niuna delle tante Vite del divin Ratiaello stampate fino ad oggi è completa come questa, nè pari per erudizione, per dotta critica e per esattezza. Al primo volume dato fuori alcuni anni sono, feci precedere un cenno biografico dell' illustre Autore morto nel 1861, e aggiunsi molte note: poco di mio poteva metterci nel secondo (che per la sua mole è stato creduto opportuno di dividere in due), essendo un copioso e cronologico Catalogo delle sue opere, compiuto in tutte le parti da non desiderare di più, se pure ad alcuni non sembrerà anche troppo minuzioso. E non credo che bisogni render ragione del mio lavoro; imperocche se sia riuscito a vin cere molte difficoltà che ho incontrato, non avendo po tuto riscontrare tutti i quasi innumerabili libri citati, tanto italiani che stranieri (alcuni rarissimi), e consultare tutti quelli che intorno a Ratiaello furono pubblicati dal 1860.
