Reaction of Uranyl Nitrate Hexahydrate with Sulfur

Uranium dioxide was prepared by the reduction of uranyl nitrate hexahydrate with sulfur in the temperature range of 250 to 360©C. The product UO2 reacted rapidly with HF to form UF4. The conversion of UO2 to UF4 was 99.6% complete.
