Excerpt from Record of Experiments With Sorghum in 1892 In general, the experience of the work at the station has shown that hand-planting gives a much more uneven and irregular stand of cane than machine-planting, but there is no other way of planting selected seed heads except by hand, as it would require too much trouble to put 50 small a quantity of seed into a drill for planting purposes. It is in general advised to roll the land as soon as the canes appear, as it makes it possible to cultivate closer and thus diminish the amount of hand labor required.
