Relationship To Fellowship

Book Description

In the times we are living in right now, it is important to have solid relationships to keep us focused and grounded in hope and faith. One of those relationships needs to be with God the Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit. Growing up, author Johnnie Prophet had wanted to know who his earthly father was, as he and his five siblings were raised by his mother and grandmother. When the opportunity came for him to speak with his father, Johnnie learned a relationship may not be possible because his father wasn't interested. However, he turned this disappointment into comprehending the relationship he had with God and how it could go from just a simple relationship to a thriving, daily fellowship with the Lord. This is what fuels his latest book, Relationship to Fellowship. Through selected stories and figures from the Bible, Johnnie shows that God has always been open to fellowshipping with us, drawing a more intimate connection with Him than many are willing to have. Through these stories, circumstances in the lives of those featured, and their responses to the events, allowed the connection to be made because God could see they were ready for this intimate bond. Johnnie also relates how we can achieve fellowship in our communities and church, even as we go through the COVID-19 pandemic, by seeking the Lord and sharing His love with a hurting world. Relationship to Fellowship encourages readers to think more about where they are right now in their relationships with God and whether those connections could be improved upon by seeking God more regularly. Though Johnnie never had the chance to have that desired relationship with his earthly father, the experience only reconfirmed what he knew to be true: his heavenly Father was always there for him and was already ready to turn their relationship into a fellowship. Johnnie Prophet, raised in Miami, Florida is married to his wife Jerlyn of 40 years. He is retired military "United States Air Force" after 22 years. While in the military, in 1992, he received the call to minister the gospel. He has served faithfully in positions as usher, deacon, elder, associate Pastor, Pastor, and presently serves as a presbytery member at House of Faith Church, Hudson Florida. Outreach ministries served in are feeding and ministering to the homeless, juvenile detention, and prison ministry. He believes Holy Spirit is upon the Church, because God has anointed the Church to preach good news to the poor, healing to the brokenhearted, liberty to the captives, recovery of sight to the blind, liberty to the oppressed, and to proclaim the favor of the Lord". (Luke 4:18-19).

Maximum Joy

Book Description

MAXIMUM JOY Anyone who has raised a child understands the difference between relationship and fellowship. A parent has a permanent relationship with his/her child. But fellowship with a child means the parent and the child are enjoying their relationship. And though their relationship is eternal, their fellowship is not. A father and his son have a permanent relationship, but unless they spend time together sharing with one another, they will not have much fellowship. The apostle John wrote one book about how to have an eternal relationship with God the Gospel of John (John 20:31). And he wrote another book about how to enjoy that relationship, or how to have fellowship with God First John (1 John 1:3-4). Dr. Anderson explains that First John is not about whether one has an eternal relationship with God, but it is about how to enjoy that relationship by having fellowship with God. And enjoying fellowship with God is what Dr. Anderson calls MAXIMUM JOY.

Your God is Too Glorious

Book Description

Most of us are regular people who have good days and bad days. Our lives are radically ordinary and unexciting. That means they're the kind of lives God gets excited about. While the world worships beauty and power and wealth, God hides his glory in the simple, the mundane, the foolish, working in unawesome people, things, and places. In our day of celebrity worship and online posturing, this is a refreshing, even transformative way of understanding God and our place in his creation. It urges us to treasure a life of simplicity, to love those whom the world passes by, to work for God's glory rather than our own. And it demonstrates that God has always been the Lord of the cross--a Savior who hides his grace in unattractive, inglorious places.Your God Is Too Glorious reminds readers that while a quiet life may look unimpressive to the world, it's the regular, everyday people that God tends to use to do his most important work.

Discipleship Defined

Book Description

"DON'T read this book if you want to remain comfortable! Eric challenges us to consider what Biblical discipleship looks like based on what Jesus did. Eric writes this book with the integrity of a man who is not merely theorizing about the way things ought to be, rather he is describing what is actually happening as he builds Biblical disciples in the context of the inner city. This book is soundly Biblical, challenging and practical. This book is about building disciples not programs." Roger Hershey, Campus Crusade For Christ "It is a joy to highly commend to all Discipleship Defined, for it is exactly the prescription that is needed for the Church to regain much of our lost effectiveness. "Discipleship Defined" has carefully described, yet without programming it into a rigid system, how to go about this challenging task." Walter C. Kaiser, Jr., President Emeritus Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary "Eric Russ gives us some very straight forward thinking about discipleship, a topic widely misunderstood and undervalued. Moving away from piety-driven discipleship, Russ points us toward a holistic, Christ-centered way of following Jesus." Jonathan Dodson, Lead Pastor Austin City Life, Austin, TX. "Eric has a healthy obsession about strong discipleship, and it shows in a gracious way in this guidebook for muscular commitment. Can you be obsessed and still have a gracious spirit? Eric does, and so does this book!" Knute Larson, Senior Pastor The Chapel, Akron, OH (1983-2009) Eric Russ is lead pastor of Mack Avenue Community Church in Detroit, Michigan. He is married to Sara and has four children. For more information visit www.discipleshipdefined.com or www.mackave.com.

Fellowship Point

Book Description

NATIONAL BESTSELLER “Engrossing...studded with wisdom about long-held bonds.” —People, Book of the Week “Enthralling, masterfully written...rich with social and psychological insights.” —The New York Times Book Review “A magnificent storytelling feat.” —The Boston Globe The “utterly engrossing, sweeping” (Time) story of a lifelong friendship between two very different “superbly depicted” (The Wall Street Journal) women with shared histories, divisive loyalties, hidden sorrows, and eighty years of summers on a pristine point of land on the coast of Maine, set across the arc of the 20th century. Celebrated children’s book author Agnes Lee is determined to secure her legacy—to complete what she knows will be the final volume of her pseudonymously written Franklin Square novels; and even more consuming, to permanently protect the peninsula of majestic coast in Maine known as Fellowship Point. To donate the land to a trust, Agnes must convince shareholders to dissolve a generations-old partnership. And one of those shareholders is her best friend, Polly. Polly Wister has led a different kind of life than Agnes: that of a well-off married woman with children, defined by her devotion to her husband, a philosophy professor with an inflated sense of stature. She strives to create beauty and harmony in her home, in her friendships, and in her family. Polly soon finds her loyalties torn between the wishes of her best friend and the wishes of her three sons—but what is it that Polly wants herself? Agnes’s designs are further muddied when an enterprising young book editor named Maud Silver sets out to convince Agnes to write her memoirs. Agnes’s resistance cannot prevent long-buried memories and secrets from coming to light with far-reaching repercussions for all. “An ambitious and satisfying tale” (The Washington Post), Fellowship Point reads like a 19th-century epic, but it is entirely contemporary in its “reflections on aging, writing, stewardship, legacies, independence, and responsibility. At its heart, Fellowship Point is about caring for the places and people we love...This magnificent novel affirms that change and growth are possible at any age” (The Christian Science Monitor).

Portraits of Righteousness

Book Description

Through Christ's death, believers have been credited with Christ's righteousness in the courtroom of heaven and have a new identity. Yet as long as we tread planet earth we are all bound by some level of sin - none of us in this life can fully escape our fallen nature inherited from Adam which dwells in our unredeemed "flesh." Although we will not be fully released from the presence of sin until Jesus returns, we do not have to remain incarcerated by sin. Paul reassures believers that in fact we can have progressive deliverance from the power of sin to live out our new identity in Christ on earth. "Portraits of Righteousness" draws from the Apostle Paul's writings in Romans 5-8 of the Bible to elucidate this life-changing opportunity.
