English Language Teaching Today: Linking Theory and Practice provides an up-to-date account of current principles and practices for teaching English in the world today. The chapters, written by internationally recognized language teacher educators and TESOL specialists, introduce the reader to key language skill areas (i.e., listening, speaking, reading, writing, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary) and explain how each skill area can be taught in a principled manner in diverse language learning contexts. Throughout the book, the link between theory and practice is explicitly highlighted and exemplified. This reader-friendly book is suitable for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in TESOL and other second language education programmes as well as for TESOL professionals who wish to stay current with recent developments in ELT.

This edited book has been compiled in honor of Thomas S.C. Farrell, one of the most distinguished scholars in theorizing and researching language teacher reflection. It examines teacher reflection in three main areas: policies, practices and the impact of teacher reflection on teachers’ practices and professional development. The data-driven chapters shed light on concerns and challenges experienced by teachers in diverse international contexts and institutions, and discuss the practical implications of their findings across a variety of policy settings. The book addresses aspects of reflective practice including macro and micro policies and constraints, as well as opportunities in the engagement of reflective practice. In addition, it explores teachers’ identity, cognition, emotion and motivation, areas which are relevant but often not discussed in the literature on reflective practice.

The study of learning versus teaching development has a significant impact on facilitating learners’ development to use ICT-based digital technology. As innovation has developed, it has also changed how instructors connect with their understudies and study halls. To better understand these technological developments, further study is required. The Handbook of Research on Learning in Language Classrooms Through ICT-Based Digital Technology considers technology from the fields of ICT-based digital technology, facilitating learning, teaching development, language, and linguistics. This book also assesses the effectiveness of technology uses in ICT-based digital technology and language classrooms as well as considers the successful methods of teaching and language topics in the teaching-learning phase through technology. Covering key topics such as artificial intelligence, gamification, media, and technology tools, this premier reference source is ideal for computer scientists, administrators, principals, researchers, academicians, practitioners, scholars, instructors, and students.

This book focuses on how instruction affects English learners’ use of Theme and thematic progression (thematic organization). While thematic organization in learner English has been extensively studied, little research has been done to investigate the effects of instruction on the use of Theme and thematic progression. Adopting a Systemic Functional Grammar approach, this study explores how a ten-week instruction on thematic organization affects Chinese college students’ use of Theme and thematic progression by comparing their English essays before and after the instruction, with native-speaker essays as the research baseline. Second-language acquisition researchers, curriculum developers and foreign language teachers will find this book useful as it not only presents a clear and detailed report of how Chinese college students learn to make better thematic choices, but also provides a well-developed instructional package on Theme and thematic progression.
