Recollections of Fifty Years in the Ministry

Book Description

Excerpt from Recollections of Fifty Years in the Ministry: With Numerous Character Sketches This volume, except a few corrections and additions, was completed on my seventy-third birthday, October 27, 1893. Some important events with which I have been associated, and many changes in the Conference with which I am connected, have occurred since then; but as I only undertook to give the recollections of fifty years, these, of course, are omitted. I trust that my narrative, with its numerous facts and incidents, will not prove entirely uninteresting and nu profitable. Neither will you find poorly done OCR versions of those faded scans either with illegible "words" that contain all kinds of strange characters like £, %, &, etc. Our publications have all been looked over and corrected by the human eye. We can't promise perfection, but we're sure gonna try! Our goal is to bring you high quality Christian publications at rock bottom prices.Description:It was at the earnest solicitation of my valued friend, Dr. E. Schuyler English, at that time Managing Editor of the Scripture periodical "REVELATION," that I penned most of the papers that now form this volume. These "were published serially in the magazine referred to. A few additional pages have been included which appeared elsewhere, and others are new.Solomon tells us that as "Iron sharpeneth iron, so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend" (Prov. 27:17). It is in the hope that these stories of God's ways of grace with one of the least of His servants may tend to "sharpen" the spiritual experiences of others, that they are now reprinted in this form.H. Reminiscences, Historical and Biographical, of Sixty-Four Years in the Ministry (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from Reminiscences, Historical and Biographical, of Sixty-Four Years in the Ministry Fob many years, and by many persons, including bishops, editors, and others, I have been importuned to publish the substance of my records and recollec tions of the Methodism of my day. It was judged that my great age, my intimate relations with Bishop Asbury, and my acquaintance with other pioneers and fathers of the Church, would enable me thus to preserve much desirable information which would otherwise soon be forgotten. In 1847 the New Jersey Conference took action on the subject, and appointed a committee to confer with me in respect to my journals and other papem, and aid in preparing them for publication. The com mittee was a very competent one, but the members were too widely separated for any effectual result. I had concluded to abandon the design, and this volume would probably never have seen the light had not the Rev. J. B. Wakeley come to my help.
