Excerpt from Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Illinois, Vol. 1: Containing Reports for the Years 1861-66 This work was commenced by issuing circular letters 'and mailing one to each Grand Army Post in this State, advising them that the State of Illinois was about to revise and correct its history of the troops and organizations enlisted in the war Of 1861 - 1866, and with a view Of making this roster and history as near correct as possible. Communication was solicited requesting those knowing Of any errors or incorrections existing in the present reports to advise this department Of such, in order that their records might be carefully examined, with a view.
